Qualifications

Modification Team Lead, Nuclear

Reporting to the Project Manager, the Project Engineer (Modification Team Lead ) will work closely with Project Managers, Construction Managers, Superintendents, Subcontractors, and Client Representatives to support the successful planning, execution, and delivery of nuclear construction projects. The role is responsible for coordinating engineering, procurement, construction, quality, safety, schedule, and project controls activities while ensuring compliance with the client, regulatory, and project requirements.

This role is based out of Pickering, ON.

What You Will Be Working On

  • Coordinate between the Bird team and the Owner/Customer’s work processes throughout the project lifecycle

  • Work closely with Owner/Customer’s engineering team, Design Service Provider, and other stakeholders in resolving technical issues

  • Responsible for Design Service Provider oversight on all projects or portions of projects where the design services are subcontracted to a Design Service Provider

  • Coordinate the assessment of the execution scope within the Owner/Customer's work management system

  • Fulfill the field team role as required by the Owner/Customer’s procedures

  • Coordinate with the procurement team to address any procurement-related issues

  • Conductfield walkdowns asrequiredthroughout the project life cycle

  • Provide installation and commissioning technical oversight

  • Create installation or commissioning workplans whenrequired

  • Identifyand update existing Owner/Customer’soperations and maintenance procedures because of the initiated projects when required

  • Initiate Temporary Change Requests (TCRs) as required fortemporary alteration in power plants

  • Coordinates work protection requirements with the Owner/Customer’s stakeholders and work protection representatives from Bird

  • Develop preventative maintenance strategies when requiredand initiate technical procedural changes resulting from the project asrequired

  • Develop modification turnover strategies to the Owner/Customer

  • Document any technical installation issues on an issue tracking file and drive the resolution of these issues

  • Collaborate with Design Team Lead on field changes and determine whether they follow the intent or non-intent change criteria

  • Arrange post installation walk-down with all stakeholders

  • Ensure all request for information (RFI) for field changes are incorporated in the final drawings prior to turning over the project to the Owner/Customer

  • Complete all required forms and documentation todemonstratereadiness for commissioning or turnover to the Owner/Customer

  • Assess training requirement to the Owner/Customer’s personnel based on the modification

What We Are Looking For
  • Undergraduate Degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Nuclear, or related Engineering discipline.

  • Registered or eligible for registration as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario.

  • 3-8 years of project engineering, project coordination, construction, or engineering experience within industrial, infrastructure, energy, or nuclear environments.

  • Experience supporting projects for OPG, Bruce Power, CNL, or other regulated nuclear facilities is considered a strong asset.

  • Knowledge of engineering, procurement, construction, and project delivery processes.

  • Understanding of project controls, cost management, scheduling, forecasting, and change management principles.

  • Experience reviewing engineering drawings, technical specifications, procedures, and construction work packages.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills with exceptional attention to detail.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing project requirements in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.

  • Ability to build andmaintaineffective working relationships across multidisciplinary teams.

  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and project management tools.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Nuclear security clearance or eligibility to obtain site access clearance is considered an asset.
