This opportunity resides with
Warfare Systems (WS), a business group within HII's Mission Technologies division. Warfare Systems comprises cyber and mission IT; electronic warfare; and C5ISR systems.
Job DescriptionThe Modeling & Simulation Systems Engineer will support a growing portfolio of analytic capabilities serving various DoW and IC customers, including the Space Warfighting Analysis Center (SWAC), Space Security and Defense Program (SSDP), US Space Command, US Strategic Command, Air Force Studies and Analysis, and the Air Force Research Laboratory. Current lines of effort include development and integration of system, engagement, mission models for all classes of threats to space systems, development of innovative approaches to joint mission thread and kill chain analyses, and exploration of concepts for mixed-resolution, multi-domain campaign analysis.
The Engineer will adopt Model Based Systems Engineering principles and practices to develop robust modeling architectures using a variety of tools, to include Cameo Systems Modeler and AFSIM. A firm foundation in systems engineering, operations research and object-oriented software coding (e.g. Python, C++, MATLAB) is essential for excelling in this position. The Engineer will work directly with subject matter experts to precisely express system behaviors in SysML and support transition of descriptive models into simulation for analyses driving force design and CONOPS development for current and future DoW architectures.
The Engineer will prepare technical products, integrating efforts across mission partners, and interacting with Government customers. Strong communication skills are required to present novel technical concepts to a wide variety of audiences.
Government customers are primarily located in Reston, Colorado Springs, Dayton, Omaha, and Albuquerque. While this position does not have a specified location, the Engineer must be willing to travel regularly to Government sites with Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities.
Essential Job Responsibilities- Create, refine, and present data products with compelling narratives that provide analytically rigorous conclusions to both senior leaders and non-technical audiences
- Work efficiently alongside the Government, in cross-contractor teams, and individually, to identify and isolate analytic, logical, and syntax anomalies in simulations, MBSE models, algorithms, and big data.
- Conduct analysis and create custom metrics within a discrete event simulator framework like AFSIM, and perform analysis with post-processing software like Python, R, Excel, etc.
- Provide quantitative answers to challenging, space systems-focused questions.
- Support subject matter experts who advise senior leaders on methodological, analytical, and domain-specific issues.
- Analyze the accuracy of algorithms within modeling frameworks and collaborate to discover improvements.
- Assist the Portfolio Lead with the development of architectural and technical communication products.
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical or Systems Engineering (or equivalent) or Operations Research/Mathematics (or equivalent).
- 5-10 years relevant experience. Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience.
- Object-oriented software coding experience (e.g. Python, C++, MATLAB).
- Familiarity with Model Based Systems Engineering, SysML, and modeling tools such as Cameo Systems Modeler.
- Must be SCI eligible (background investigation within last 5 years or in continuous monitoring) and able to work regularly in Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities.
- Must be willing to travel CONUS approximately 20% of the time.
Preferred Requirements- Experience in modeling, simulating, and analyzing DoD systems at various levels of granularity (e.g. engagement, mission, campaign).
- Strong skills in critical thinking and problem solving.
- Experience with Cameo Systems Modeler, especially in modeling detailed behaviors using state machines.
- Experience in independent Project Management.
Physical RequirementsMay require working in an office, industrial, shipboard, or laboratory environment. Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances.
The listed salary range for this role is intended as a good faith estimate based on the role's location, expectations, and responsibilities. When extending an offer, HII's Mission Technologies division takes a variety of factors into consideration which include, but are not limited to, the role's function and a candidate's education or training, work experience, and key skills.
