OverviewStellar Solutions is seeking a Modeling and Simulation Engineer to support advanced mission analysis and architecture assessments for highly visible national security space programs in Chantilly, VA. In this role, you will provide technical analysis supporting complex space systems and help inform architecture, acquisition, and capability decisions for next-generation intelligence systems.
Role/Responsibilities/Qualifications
In this role, you will:
The selected candidate will work closely with government customers and systems engineering teams to evaluate space and ground architectures, assess system performance, conduct mission and orbital analyses, and develop modeling and simulation approaches that address complex mission needs. This position offers the opportunity to directly support critical Intelligence Community (IC) and Department of Defense (DoD) missions involving SIGINT and related intelligence capabilities.
- Support mission analysis assessments, technical studies, and architecture evaluations for complex space systems
- Conduct architecture trade studies, impact assessments, and system performance analyses in coordination with government and enterprise engineering teams
- Develop, test, validate, and apply modeling and simulation methodologies and analytical tools using platforms such as STK, SOAP, MATLAB, Python, and other mission analysis software
- Analyze spacecraft and ground system performance, mission timelines, operational scenarios, and system-level performance metrics
- Perform orbital analyses, including mission trades, threat impacts, architecture considerations, and alternative concept evaluations
- Identify and document technical issues affecting spacecraft, ground systems, and end-to-end mission performance through objective quantitative analysis
- Support algorithm analysis, modeling, verification, validation, tuning, testing, and integration planning
- Evaluate system and architecture performance to support future capability and acquisition decisions
- Develop technical documentation, analysis reports, briefings, and recommendations for government stakeholders
- Communicate complex analytical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Collaborate with government customers, program offices, mission partners, and systems engineering organizations to develop solutions to complex technical challenges
Required Qualifications
- Active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics, physics, computer science, or a related technical discipline
- 5+ years of relevant Intelligence Community experience
- Experience performing modeling, simulation, mission analysis, or quantitative systems analysis for space-based systems
- Strong understanding of government satellite systems, space mission architectures, and their application to Intelligence Community and Department of Defense missions
- Understanding of SIGINT mission fundamentals and Signals Intelligence satellite systems and architectures
- Experience analyzing complex space systems, including spacecraft, ground systems, mission performance, and/or orbital considerations
- Experience with MATLAB, Python, or similar technical computing/programming tools
- Ability to analyze complex technical problems and translate results into clear findings and recommendations
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively with government customers and multidisciplinary engineering teams
Desired Qualifications
- Master's degree in engineering, mathematics, physics, computer science, or a related technical discipline
- Experience with Systems Tool Kit (STK), SOAP, or comparable orbital and mission analysis tools
- Experience conducting architecture trades, mission effectiveness analysis, or system performance assessments
- Experience with SIGINT, COMINT, FISINT, and/or ELINT mission areas
- Experience supporting algorithm verification and validation, performance tuning, or integration activities
- Familiarity with future space architecture studies, capability assessments, and acquisition decision support
