Job DescriptionActively seeking a Senior Engineering Technician to join our Precise Systems team in support of MK 41 Vertical Launching System (VLS) In-Service Engineering Agent (ISEA) Installation & Test Branch at Naval Surface Warfare Center Port Hueneme Division (NSWC PHD). This full-time, Norfolk, VA position provides VLS technical support in execution of the in-service engineering agent tasking pertaining to ship availabilities, equipment modernization, launcher engineering investigations and testing. This role is critical in aligning engineering, test, and logistics activities with program objectives to sustain fleet readiness and increase combat system capabilities.
Duties:- Launcher Engineering: Support equipment engineering, launcher installation and upgrades, operational testing & evaluation, failure investigations & troubleshooting, computer diagnostics, and the authoring, editing, and updating of shipboard procedures, waivers, and test plans
- Launcher Installation, Upgrade, and Test: Provide on-site technical services for VLS system and equipment engineering, module installations, launcher modifications, and hardware upgrades for USN and FMS navies
- System Troubleshooting & Diagnostics: Perform advanced root-cause analysis and computer diagnostics to isolate and resolve complex MK 41 VLS failures, faults, and anomalies observed during fleet operations, ship availabilities, and live-fire events
- Test Procedure Execution: Develop, refine, and execute comprehensive test plans and procedures to validate VLS functionality and operational readiness, ensuring strict compliance with MK 41 VLS Safety Design Precepts
- Technical Documentation Lifecycle: Author and maintain life-cycle technical and logistics documentation, ensuring complete accuracy for Technical Manuals (TMs), the Planned Maintenance System (PMS), Module Installation & Test manuals, and VLS waivers
- OEM Production Oversight, Decommissioning & Harvesting: Provide engineering expertise and quality assurance support during module production, builds, and testing at OEM, contractor, builder's yard, and NSWC Port Hueneme; lead launcher and component harvesting initiatives onboard decommissioned naval vessels to secure critical fleet assets
Required Experience:- Five plus (5+) years' experience in the installation, operations, maintenance, and troubleshooting of MK 41 VLS, working as a certified System Maintenance Technician or Test Director
- Candidate must have a current MK VLS certification of System Maintenance Technician (SMT) or Test Director (TD) in accordance with NAVSEA Standing Instruction 86-2 series.
Required Skills and Knowledge:- Use of electronics test equipment such as Oscilloscopes, Data Loggers, Time Domain Reflectometers (TDR), Function Generators, Logic and Power Supply Analyzers, and Automatic Test Equipment (ATEs)
- Problem-solving skills in identifying problems, developing solutions, and implementing fixes; breaking down complex issues into smaller, manageable parts and finding creative solutions
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate with stakeholders, present findings, and facilitate technical discussion and collaboration
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Excel, Word, Project, Teams)
Required Education:- High School Diploma or GED equivalent; Associate of Science (AS) degree, or equivalent formal military technical training (NEC 0981/V65B, 0979/V64B, or 0983/V66B) preferred
This position is covered by the Service Contract Labor Standard under a Wage Determination. As such Under the SCA selected candidates are entitled to both the hourly rate aforementioned and a health and welfare benefit. Compensation at Precise Systems is determined by various factors, including education, experience, skills, competencies, and contract-specific requirements. The minimum hourly pay rate is $45.59. This range represents the standard pay for this role and is just one component of Precise Systems' total compensation package.
