Full Job Description
Bald Mountain is an open-pit mine with a large estimated mineral resource in the largest private mining land package in the U.S. The mine is located in White Pine County, one of the best mining jurisdictions in the world, along the southern extension of the prolific Carlin trend. Bald Mountain and the nearby Round Mountain mine make up Kinross' Nevada operations.

Bald Mountain is an important contributor to the economy of northeastern Nevada and maintains a comprehensive environmental strategy including wildlife protection, habitat recovery and education.

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Senior Mine Engineer or their designee, this person performs engineering tasks. They are to use engineering first principles to contribute to the design, and development of processes, practices, and methodologies within the Technical Services Group. They are to coordinate activities related to a full-range of engineering functions, and ensure achievement of service/operating standards (internally/externally). They must be willing to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment where they can apply their engineering knowledge and skills to create solutions to operational challenges.

Essential Functions

1. Responsibilities may be focused in one of the following areas of engineering: short- and long-term mine planning, project controls, cost controls, construction, geotechnical, environmental, production, exploration or continuous improvement
2. Integrates short-term plans into long-term, and life-of-mine plans.
3. Analyzes and interprets mine plans to ensure alignment with operational objectives.
4. Must be willing to take on cross-rotation assignments within the Technical Services Group for personal development.
5. Independently handles relevant technical duties, including application submittal, monitoring, and reporting.
6. Researches information to support decision-making and improve processes, technologies or methodologies.
7. Contributes to the development of policies and practices.
8. Monitors costs related to services provided, and implements approved recommendations for maximizing operational efficiencies.
9. Maintains excellent rapport with external regulatory agencies to foster working relationships that minimize adversarial actions and maximizes information exchange.
10. Conducts regular and frequent inspections of operations / equipment / processes / procedures to ensure planned production goals can be met and regulatory / permit compliance.
11. Responds to a variety of internal and / or external requests.
12. Prepares communication materials, manuals and other written materials related to technical issues, programs, or systems including technical reports and documentation to ensure compliance with regulatory / industry and operational requirements.

Qualifications and Skill Requirements

1. B.S. Degree in Mining or Engineering Related.
2. 1-3 Years' experience in surface mining preferred.
3. Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and concepts of open pit mining engineering.
4. General understanding of mining operations, as well as limited understanding of heap leach operations.
5. Working knowledge of computer-aided mine design and familiarity with one or more commercial software packages (Deswik, Vulcan, etc.) is preferred.
6. Proficiency in MS Office suite of software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
7. Requires technical communication skills, as well as, strong interpersonal skills (written/ verbal and analytical/ persuasive).
8. Must be able to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and management.
9. Ability to learn quickly and to function within the physical demand requirements.
10. Understanding of Kinross' processes and corporate values is an asset.
11. Ability to work independently and as a member of the Engineering Team.
12. Must be 18 years old and presently authorized to work in the United States on a full time basis.
13. Requires valid driver's license.
