Where You Will Work

Located approximately 50 miles northeast of Safford, Arizona on U.S. Highway 191, Morenci operations (an open-pit copper mining complex) has been in continuous operation since 1939. The operation consists of two concentrators, crushed-ore leach pad and stacking system, a low-grade run-of-mine (ROM) leaching system; four SX plants; and three EW tank houses that produce copper cathode.

What You Will Do

  • Develop mining plans based on all available geological information to support short and/or long-range planning and production goals.
  • Participate in Engineering feasibility studies to define proper mining methods, equipment selection, mine site facilities, and manpower and production requirements.
  • Assist in the preparation of detailed ore reserve estimates.
  • Monitor mining methods and equipment to improve performance.
  • Ensure maximum productivity and extraction rates by optimizing mining methods, procedures, and equipment.
  • Assist in developing and managing mine, mine ventilation, waste dumps and stockpile designs.
  • Recommend courses of action designed to eliminate potential production problems and to improve safety, operational efficiency, control production costs and protect the environment.
  • Work with Geologists in exploration and assists in the Engineering phase of developments and operational activities.
  • Monitor mine ventilation and air quality at working sites throughout the mine.
  • Perform other duties as required.


What You Bring To Freeport

  • Bachelor's degree in Mine Engineering or related Engineering discipline and three (3) years of related experience in Engineering, OR
  • Master's degree in Mine Engineering or related Engineering discipline and two (2) years of related experience in Engineering
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of Mine Engineering
  • Able to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing


Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience with Mine planning and scheduling software.


What We Offer You

The estimated annual pay range for this role is currently $93,000-$127,500. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors.
