Job Summary

We are currently seeking a Software Engineer. This position is a full-time opportunity located in Chantilly, VA.

In this role, you will support client missions at a government facility, working at the intersection of software engineering, embedded systems, and advanced data science. You will contribute to fast-paced, mission-critical projects that span the full software development lifecycle - from requirements gathering and system design to implementation, testing, and delivery.

You will work within a multidisciplinary team environment, applying expertise in low-level systems programming, machine learning, and data engineering to solve complex challenges in science and technology fields relevant to the national security and intelligence communities.

Responsibilities

As a Software Engineer, the selected individual will design, develop, and deliver software solutions in support of advanced client missions across the national security and intelligence communities. Responsibilities may include:

  • Conducting C/C++ development that directly supports critical customer missions in fast-paced, mission-driven environments
  • Aiding in the design and implementation of machine learning and data engineering techniques for application to advanced science and technology (S&T) client missions
  • Applying concepts from modern compiled languages such as Go or Rust to embedded development efforts
  • Developing software for real-time operating systems (RTOS) and complex embedded systems
  • Applying software development expertise to the analysis of compiled custom operating systems, including learning and applying reverse engineering principles
  • Participating in the design, implementation, and maintenance of tailored software applications that provide advanced solutions across diverse business areas
  • Translating user requirements into concepts for information system solutions to be implemented by functional teams
  • Providing data analysis and modeling, including the physical and logical design of databases
  • Supporting the design and delivery of reports, stored procedures, and queries to meet project requirements
  • Collecting, organizing, and analyzing technical information from multiple sources to drive client missions and quick-turn tasks
  • Contributing to and participating in the testing of delivered software solutions
  • Collaborating effectively in a multidisciplinary environment while working independently and leading tasks on time and on budget

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with 3+ years of experience; or a Master's degree in a related field with 1+ year of experience; or a Ph.D.; or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field
  • Experience in full-stack software development with significant programming experience in C#, C++, and/or Java
  • Professional development experience using JavaScript or one of its derivatives
  • Experience with MS SQL, PostgreSQL, or similar relational database technologies
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new programming languages, design patterns, operating systems, and deployment environments (e.g., Azure, AWS, and physical hardware)
  • Experience in the national security, defense, and/or intelligence communities
  • Must be a US Citizen with an active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph

Compensation Data

Battelle is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this role is $115,000 - $160,000 per year, in addition to our comprehensive benefits package. A candidate's salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to education, relevant work experience, skills, and certifications. Salary ranges may vary based on geographic location and market conditions.
