Manages production operations and equipment as related to manufacturing of ink. Responsible for managing the costs associated with manufacturing operations, quality of materials produced, safety of plant personnel, and implementation of regulations as they relate to manufacturing at the facility. Responsible for the administration of company policies, procedures and corporate initiatives within the department. Develops and leads staff in the day to day operations required to execute production schedules and meet customer expectations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Productivity- Leads the planning, organizing and controlling of production, insuring coordination with other departments in order to facilitate meeting customer requirements. Ensures that production schedules are executed in the most cost-effective manner making recommendation for process or schedule improvements, provide justifications to support decision. Review and justify cost variances.
- Initiate plans and processes which minimize manufacturing costs through effective utilization of manpower, equipment, facilities, materials and capital. Ensure attainment of business objectives and site goals.
- Resolves process and facility problems to ensure maximum effectiveness, efficiency and quality. Prevents operational delays in meeting scheduling requirements
- Develops, reviews, updates and implements production planning including continuous improvement initiatives (Six Sigma, 5S, Lean)
- Reviews analysis of activities, costs, operations and forecast data to determine progress toward company Annual Operating Plan goals and objectives. Manages spend against budget and controls spend in relation to changes in production volume.
Leadership- Lead and motivate the workforce in a positive manner and effectively handle employee relations issues including, but not limited to, training, counseling, discipline and conflict resolution.
- Comply with and guide staff on standard human resource practices, facility work rules and site policies. Foster positive employee morale, enhanced productivity and a fair and equitable work environment.
- Confers with direct reports and support personnel to review achievements and discuss required changes in strategy and work processes to maintain and exceed operational goals.
- Coordinates with other departments to ensure goals and objectives are achieved.
Customer Value System- Investigates customer complaints from an operational viewpoint to determine root cause, implement remedy and monitor results.
- Works with other team members to maintain a continuing ISO program and certification.
People Development- Staffs and trains employees according to production needs.
- Evaluates, motivates and coaches subordinates.
- Address performance issues in a timely manner and coach for improved performance.
- Make certain that plant rules and policies are effectively administered and that employee concerns are addressed in a timely manner
Safety- Leads adherence to safety and housekeeping standards through example, teamwork and accountability.
- Ensures that the facility is running in compliance with Company safety and regulatory policies as they relate to environmental health and safety.
- Maintains a continuing OSHA compliance program.
Other- Maintains good communication and a good working relationship within site departments and, when necessary, externally to sales and other corporate, regional or unit personnel.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: - BS in Operations Management, Business Administration or related discipline preferred.
- Equivalent work experience of 7+ years will be considered in lieu of a degree
- 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment; preferably batch manufacturing
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, set priorities, identify and address problems, meet deadlines, and stay within budget
- Responsiveness and sense of urgency
- Strong computer proficiency, especially with spreadsheets, word processing and presentation software and SAP
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing concepts
- Conflict resolution and Team Development
- Data-based approach to solving problems and making decisions
- Strong math aptitude to apply Six Sigma methodology
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organization and time management skills
POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK: - Monday-Friday with occasional Saturday support based on customer demand
