Full Job Description
Meteorologist Planner/Controller

Key Responsibilities
  • Work as part of the Planning and Launch Support team at CCSFS, on the Eastern Range
  • Analyze, plan, review, revise, and develop technical documentation required to meet customer daily and mission support configuration requirements for the Eastern Range to include PRD, PSP, OD, RSOR, RSOR OpSup, EORs, and OCIs
  • Develop Operational support plans, operational directives, and test plans for evaluation of new and existing meteorological systems
  • Evaluate current meteorological equipment capability to comply with existing and future range customer and range safety requirements
  • Review open System Access Authorizations (SAA) for system readiness changes and impacts to planning efforts to meet launch and operational requirements
  • Review Operational Acceptance Recommendations (OAR) and Operational Acceptance Memorandum (OAM) for system readiness changes and impacts to planning efforts to meet launch and operational requirements
  • Recommend changes to Amentum Mission Support Facilitators to improve the quality or quantity of data for more efficient use of range systems or facilities
  • Coordinate reviews and processes related to SFRC Operating Instructions, System Operational documents, procedures, and operating instructions
  • May propose alternate methods of obtaining coverage when requirements are beyond the capability of the existing instrumentation
  • Review range schedules in advance to ensure required instrumentation and customer requirements can be met for the respective Range system
  • Conduct pre-test briefings and post-test critiques
  • Provide documentation, real-time work center coordination, and systems controller support to the Eastern Range during launch tests, simulations, and non-test periods and ensure that all sites understand procedures during tests and simulations
  • Review test-support documentation and system requirements to ensure appropriate system status calls and the correct response priority is provided to system personnel
  • Report systems status in accordance with PLC-SOI-004-E Reporting Range Systems Status during launch operations and Mission Rehearsals
  • Recommend and implement approved changes to operating procedures or methods to improve data quality and performance for future tests
  • Prepare ADHOC reports and procedures
  • Provide System Controller function associated with documenting known or suspected systems failures, assign appropriate resources to investigate/repair failure when required, and ensure all actions are documented professionally and timely in accordance with Amentum requirements
  • Monitor performance and status of all systems during on-console activities including daily, pre-launch, and launch activities
  • Performs other related duties as assigned


Minimum Requirements:
  • A.S. degree in electronics or equivalent combination of military and/or electronic industrial experience and education
  • Four years of experience as a Systems Controller supporting the Launch Controller position or two years as a Sr. Systems Controller or ten years' experience in Meteorological Systems preferred
  • Extensive knowledge of Meteorological Systems and a working knowledge of engineering and electronic theory preferred
  • Must have thorough understanding of Meteorological Systems providing support to both the SLD 45 Range Safety and launch customers as it relates to launch pad weather instrumentation
  • Understand SLD 45 procedures and practices for operations scheduling, planning, mission execution, and organizational roles and responsibilities
  • Possess detailed knowledge of the Eastern Range Meteorological ERD Alias definitions, structure, and interdependence
  • Ability to articulate how Meteorological Systems capabilities, limitations, and configurations affect mission planning and execution
  • Develop and present concise and well-organized briefings to convey complex technical information to diverse audiences
  • Must have flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Must have the means to travel locally around CCSFS and between meeting sites, including PSFB
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance, which includes U.S. Citizenship or U.S. naturalization
  • Must be proficient in MS Office applications
  • Must work well independently and with team members with limited supervision
  • Must have strong leadership and interpersonal skills to facilitate technical direction to personnel supporting daily and mission operation activities
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License required
  • This position is assigned to CCSFS, FL
  • Salary is determined by Collective Bargaining Agreement
