MEP Superintendent

Bird is seeking an experienced Mechanical & Electrical Superintendent (Power Generation/Hydroelectric) to join our team on the Rapid Otter Project in Cochrane, Ontario.

Reporting to the Project Manager, the Mechanical & Electrical Superintendent will be responsible for leading and coordinating all mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and controls activities on site. Working within Bird's self-perform construction model, you will oversee unionized trade labour, subcontractors, and field operations to ensure work is executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements.

This position is site-based and requires the successful candidate to work within a remote project environment. This role is located at Rapid Otter Project in Cochrane, Ontario.

What You Will Be Working On

  • Lead day-to-day field execution of mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and controls scopes.
  • Supervise and coordinate unionized trade labour, subcontractors, suppliers, and self-perform crews.
  • Develop, maintain, and monitor short-term construction schedules and workforce plans.
  • Ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project drawings, specifications, quality standards, and schedule requirements.
  • Coordinate installation, inspections, testing, commissioning, and turnover activities.
  • Monitor construction progress, productivity, and manpower requirements to achieve project milestones.
  • Review drawings, specifications, shop drawings, and work packages to support field execution.
  • Collaborate closely with project management, engineering, quality, safety, and client representatives.
  • Lead trade coordination meetings and proactively resolve construction issues in the field.
  • Manage site logistics, material delivery requirements, equipment utilization, and resource planning.
  • Identify project risks and implement corrective actions to minimize impacts to cost and schedule.
  • Maintain accurate reporting of field progress, workforce levels, and construction activities.
  • Champion Bird's safety culture and ensure compliance with all health, safety, environmental, and client requirements.
  • Support commissioning, deficiency management, turnover, and project closeout activities.


What We Are Looking For
  • Post-secondary education in Construction Management, Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 8+ years of construction experience with progressive field leadership responsibilities.
  • Experience as a Mechanical Superintendent, Electrical Superintendent, MEP Superintendent, General Superintendent, or similar leadership role.
  • Experience delivering power generation, hydroelectric, industrial, energy, mining, utilities, heavy civil, or infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, electrical systems, instrumentation and controls, commissioning, and startup processes.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising unionized construction labour and multiple subcontractors.
  • Strong planning, scheduling, and construction sequencing abilities.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and execute construction drawings and specifications.
  • Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and team-building skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and construction management software platforms.
  • Red Seal certification in a mechanical or electrical trade.
  • Gold Seal Certification.
  • Previous hydroelectric, power generation, nuclear, or industrial construction experience.
  • Experience working on remote projects.
  • Commissioning and startup experience.
