Now Hiring: Director of Mental Health - Lead Behavioral Health Care in Corrections

CBH Medical is actively hiring a Director of Mental Health (DMH) for a Full-Time position. This role oversees and coordinates mental health services across our correctional site(s) in partnership with on-site clinicians. About the role

  • The Director of Mental Health will assess, evaluate, and coordinate mental health care for incarcerated individuals in conjunction with on-site mental health clinicians. This role performs clinical reviews and assesses care related to mental health, monitors whether the level of care and services related to mental health and substance abuse are medically appropriate within the standard practice of security at each site and supports Clinical Regional Managers on behalf of mental health related practices and treatments across facilities. The DMH also helps manage and maintain mental health providers site-to-site, assists in filling new mental health roles at potential or new sites, and supports clinical regional management in RFP processes on behalf of mental health standards and operations.

What you'll do

  • Perform quarterly reviews with mental health providers site-to-site, to ensure quality and compliance to documentation regarding mental health encounters, and discusses success in collaborating with local CSB's for necessary tasks such as TDOs, ECOs, and restorative services, aiding in troubleshooting any detriments in working relationships with local CSBs
  • Aid Clinical Management members with hiring, onboarding, and orienting new hires site-to-site as needed, including education on procedures such as TDOs, court orders, and the process of court-ordered psychological evaluations for sanity at time of offense/competency
  • Fill in site-to-site as needed due to the absence of a mental health clinician
  • Analyze mental health data to improve quality and appropriate utilization of services
  • Attend conferences associated with standards in correctional mental health policy and procedure, as well as MAT programs, to educate MH clinicians and medical staff on standards and parameters of MAT program clients
  • Evaluate treatment for mental health and substance abuse before, during, and after services, in conjunction with medical, to ensure level of care and services are medically appropriate; performs prior authorization reviews related to mental health and substance abuse to determine medical appropriateness in accordance with regulatory guidelines and criteria
  • Engage with medical directors and leadership to improve the quality and efficiency of care
  • Formulate and presents cases in staffing and integrated rounds
  • Perform concurrent review of behavioral health inpatient care to determine overall health of the member and treatment needs
  • Actively collaborate with jail security regarding up-to-date SOPs such as suicide watch policy and cellmate required status; maintains active use of Jail Tracker to aid communication between security and mental health clinicians
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications
  • Master's degree in psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or a related mental health field
  • Current, unrestricted license as a LCSW / LPC in the State of Virginia
  • 5+ years of clinical and/or leadership experience in mental health services, correctional healthcare experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of mental health and substance abuse treatment standards and regulatory requirements
  • Ability to recognize and respond to signs of mental illness, emotional disturbance, or substance dependency
  • Experience collaborating with community services boards (CSBs) and coordinating TDOs, ECOs, and restorative services preferred
