Full Job Description
The Suffolk County Department of Health Services is currently seeking a Physician for a full-time role as a Medical Program Administrator in Health Department Administration.

Responsibilities are primarily non-clinical, involving oversight of clinical units in the department's divisions of Patient Care and Public Health.

This position is based in Great River, N.Y.

Work Schedule
Monday - Friday
9:00am - 5:00pm
Key Elements Of The Role:
  • Provide coverage for the Directors/ Acting Director of Public Health and Patient Care, assuming clinical and supervisory responsibilities for these Divisions when the Director(s) is/are unavailable.
  • Oversee assigned programs in the Division of Patient Care. Supervise the implementation of these programs by their individual directors, including oversight of compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and grant requirements. Provide clinical oversight and guidance for the unit clinical staff.
  • Compose, review and update policies and procedures for Division of Patient Care and Public Health, in coordination with the Division Director.
  • Maintain a current set of standing orders for use by Patient Care programs.
  • Serve as a clinical consultant for nursing and provider staff in several Patient Care and Public Health units.
  • Work with the County Attorney's office to prepare legal documents for public health.
  • Perform clinical work in occupational medicine and manage vaccination clinics as needed.
  • Participate in various committees.
  • Participate in community-wide public health emergency preparedness activities and the public health response to emergency events.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

OPEN COMPETITIVE
  • Possession of a license to practice medicine in the State of New York

AND
  • Two (2) years of experience as a licensed physician in the field of assignment.


NOTE: Board Eligibility in a recognized specialty such as Pediatrics, Preventive Medicine, or Internal Medicine may be substituted for one (1) year of the experience in the field of assignment; Board Certification in a recognized specialty such as Pediatrics, Preventive Medicine, or Internal Medicine may be substituted for two (2) years of the experience in the field of assignment.

This Role Is A Provisional Appointment

A provisional appointment, which occurs only in the competitive class, is a temporary appointment to a position for which no eligible list exists or for which an eligible list exists with fewer than three candidates who are willing to accept the position. In order to become permanent, the employee who is provisionally appointed must take the next examination for the position in question. The appointment to the position is then made from among the three highest scoring passing candidates who indicate their willingness to accept the position. Civil Service law does not compel the appointing authority to choose the provisional employee should he or she be one of the three candidates
