Job Summary

The Medical Physicist plans, organizes, directs, and manages the operation of the Imaging Services Department. Recommends, develops, implements, and evaluates goals, objectives, policies, and procedures related to diagnostic imaging; provides staff support to higher-level management within the Hospital District; and selects, trains, and supervises subordinate clinical, technical, and clerical staff. Participates during the preparation and maintenance of department budgets. Leads the development and monitoring of department specific systems and in the coordination of activities that improve the quality of patient care in the Diagnostic Imaging Department. Serves as the organization's Radiation Safety Officer.

Work Experience

One year of experience as a Physicist required, preferably in the State of Texas.

License/Registration/Certification:

Texas Medical Physicist License required.

Board certified by the American Board of Radiology or the American Board of Medical Physics or board eligible and working towards certification preferred.

Member of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine or the American College of Medical Physics preferred.

Education and Training:

Master's Degree in Physics or Radiation Biology required. Doctoral degree preferred.

  10. Work cooperatively with other University Medical Center and County departments, public and private organizations, including public and private medical providers
  11. Train staff and coordinate activities of contractors, volunteer groups and staff, as appropriate
