Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Resolve temperature and air quality complaints with Siemens System 600 Apogee and HVAC systems.
  • Implement energy optimization strategies through installation and programming of Apogee components.
  • Design and install Apogee Building Automation System modifications for renovations.
  • Review blueprints/specifications for mechanical and control systems on capital projects.
  • Perform various duties within the Facilities team as assigned and needed.
  • Conduct strenuous physical activity, including heavy lifting up to 50 lbs.

Reporting to the Manager, Technical Services, the Mechanical Systems & Controls Technician investigates and resolves all space temperature and air quality complaints as well as completes all required repairs to controls systems and minor mechanical repairs to ensure building occupants are comfortable.

Responsibilities
  • Working with Siemens System 600 Apogee Building Automation System and mechanical HVAC systems to resolve all occupant temperature and air quality complaints;
  • Implementing energy optimization strategies through the installation/replacement of Apogee Automation System components as well as PPCL programming modifications, point database modifications and scheduling changes;
  • Participating in the design and performing the installation of all Siemens System 600 Apogee Building Automation System modifications related to all University renovations;
  • Participating in the review of pre-tender blueprints and specifications for mechanical and controls systems required for capital projects (new buildings);
  • Performing other duties as reasonably assigned as part of the Facilities team; and
  • Capable of performing strenuous physical activity such as heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs).

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess:
  • A high degree of technical competency related to electrical/electronic controls for mechanical systems;
  • Education and experience required for a Controls/HVAC Technician (e.g. Electronics Technician, Industry Training or equivalent);
  • Minimum of five years of experience installing, programming and troubleshooting a commercial Building Automation System (e.g. Siemens System 600 Apogee, JCI Metasys, Delta) is required with preference given to experience utilizing Siemens System 600 Apogee;
  • Excellent understanding of commercial building mechanical systems is required. These systems should include air delivery (VAV and constant volume), hydronic and electrical;
  • Trade certification as an Electrician, Refrigeration/HVAC Mechanic or Technician will be considered an asset; and
  • Must possess a valid class 5 driver's license.

An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered;

Salary

This position has been classified as Grade 10A. The annual salary range for this position is $84,593.60 to $88,067.20 and the normal starting salary will be $84,593.60.

Normal hours of work will be 8:00 am - 4:00 pm Monday through Friday. The ability to travel to the regions on a regularly scheduled basis (quarterly) is required.
