Position Summary
The Mechanical Superintendent directs the installation and coordination of mechanical systems on a data center construction project, including chilled water plants, cooling towers, CRAH/CRAC units, piping distribution, and containment, from rough-in through commissioning support. This role works closely with the mechanical trade partners, the general superintendent, and the commissioning agent to sequence equipment installation and testing within a tightly coordinated mechanical yard and data hall schedule.
This is a field-based position supporting construction projects in North Louisiana, Virginia, and Corpus Christi, Texas. Project assignments and reporting locations will vary based on operational needs. Travel and/or temporary relocation may be required.
Essential Responsibilities
- Direct daily field activities for mechanical trade partners, including equipment installation, rough-in, and piping terminations.
- Coordinate installation of chilled water plants, cooling towers, chillers, and pumps in the mechanical yard.
- Coordinate installation of CRAH/CRAC units, piping distribution, and containment systems in the data halls.
- Enforce adherence to approved mechanical shop drawings, coordination drawings, and equipment submittals during installation.
- Support pre-functional and functional testing activities in coordination with the commissioning agent, including Level 1 through Level 4 commissioning checks for mechanical systems.
- Identify and resolve mechanical coordination conflicts using BIM coordination drawings and field verification.
- Track mechanical punch list items and confirm corrective work is completed prior to commissioning milestones.
- Coordinate mechanical system flushing, pressure testing, and water treatment activities with subcontractors and the commissioning agent.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or construction management preferred.
- Minimum 8 years of superintendent-level experience directing mechanical trades on commercial or industrial projects.
- Strong working knowledge of mechanical systems installation, including chilled water plants, cooling towers, CRAH/CRAC units, and piping distribution.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, piping schematics, and coordination drawings.
- OSHA 30-Hour certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience on a data center or other mission-critical construction project.
- Familiarity with commissioning processes, including IST and system-by-system turnover for mechanical systems.
- Experience with BIM coordination software such as Navisworks for clash resolution.
Work Environment
Full-time presence on an active construction site, including mechanical yards and data halls during equipment installation and testing. Requires the ability to walk the full site throughout the day, work around piping and rotating equipment, and wear standard personal protective equipment.
