Full Job Description
Our team in the USA is growing. We are currently recruiting for a Mechanical and Layout Technician to join our Minerals & Metals business line in either our Tucson or Denver offices. You will be responsible for creating and managing the spatial and mechanical arrangements of equipment, systems, and infrastructure for mining and heavy industrial projects. The role requires strong CAD/3D modeling skills, coordination with multiple engineering disciplines, and adherence to project and client standards.

About the Role
  • Design & Layout Development: Produce 2D and 3D mechanical layouts for mining projects, including concentrators, material handling systems, processing plants, and large-scale industrial facilities.
  • Modeling & Documentation: Use software such as SmartPlant, AutoCAD, Bentley OpenPlant Modeler, OpenPlant P&ID, Navisworks, and Autodesk Advance Steel to create 3D models, general arrangement drawings, and equipment models.
  • Coordination: Work closely with process, mechanical, structural, civil, electrical, and instrumentation teams to ensure accurate, integrated designs.
  • Quality Assurance: Review and verify 3D models and drawings for compliance with engineering requirements, conduct technical quality audits, and ensure data integrity.
  • Budget & Schedule Management: Manage project budgets, schedules, and deliverables related to layout work.
  • Client Engagement: Coordinate with client representatives, participate in proposal preparations, and provide feedback on deliverables.


About You:
  • Educational Background: Technical college or university degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology or related field.
  • Experience: Minimum 4-6 years in heavy industrial design/layout, preferably in mining or mineral processing.
  • Working knowledge of HEXAGON SmartPlant (preferred) or similar: AUTODESK AutoCAD / AutoPLANT (3D), Microstation.
  • Deliver design drafting according to project design requirements as well as the defined regulations, codes, and standards.
  • Maintain consistent design drafting standards across project areas by communicating expectations and holding project members to account for standards.
  • Facilitate and ensure interdisciplinary co-ordination when developing the model


Salary Range: $76,000- $98,000
