Full Job Description

CoolIT, An Ecolab Company, a leading Direct Liquid Cooling technology provider for data centers, supercomputers, and desktop computers is seekingaMechanical Engineering Team Lead, CDU/ Structural Mechanical, who will lead a high performing team of mechanical engineers in the design of new Coolant Distribution Unit (CDU) products for the datacenter and high-performance computing industry. You will manage team workload, support technical development, and collaborate with industry partners to drive continuous improvement and adopt best-in-class technologies. Your team will be responsible for the CDU mechanical design, contributing across the full lifecycle of the product. As an engineering leader, your success will be measured by your teams ability to perform effectively and achieve its goals. You will also foster a team culture that attracts, develops, and retains top industry talent.


What You Will Do:

  • Lead the engineering team responsible for CDU mechanical architecture and interfaces, physical integration, structural-mechanical design, seismic analysis, reliability, packaging, and manufacturability.
  • Guide your team in mechanical product design through the full new product introduction (NPI) lifecycle; concept development, detailed design, validation, product launch & handoff to mass production, field support & sustaining activities, and value engineering until product end-of-life.
  • Drive increased product reliability, shorter development times, and fewer design cycles by standardizing design approaches and increasing re-use of qualified components and assemblies across products.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous learning, and engineering excellence.
  • Review and authenticate your teams technical work ensuring technical competence and rigour is upheld.
  • Conduct performance management activities including performance evaluations, Goal Setting Reviews (GSRs), coaching, and ongoing feedback.
  • Support your team members in developing their technical, decision-making, and leadership skills with Individual Development Plans (IDPs), training, and professional development.
  • Support business decisions by contributing to high-level project effort and timeline estimates.
  • Conduct detailed work planning and estimation, participate in defining the work breakdown structures for current and queued projects.
  • Balance your teams workload by supporting sprint planning and capacity smoothing.
  • Support and contribute to continuous improvement of internal engineering standards, workflows, and guidelines.
  • Collaborate with external parties, including industry partners, customers, consultants, and critical component suppliers to support technical decision-making, continuous improvement, and adoption of best-in-class technology.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Engineering Physics, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in mechanical engineering, product design, datacenter design, or a related technical field.
  • P.Eng. or P.Tech.(Eng.) designation with APEGA, or ability to obtain within six months.
  • Strong expertise in mechanical design, including GD&T, tolerance analysis, FEA, DfM, DfA, DFMEA, and design validation.
  • Experience leading hardware product development through the full New Product Introduction (NPI) lifecycle, from concept through production.
  • Demonstrated people leadership and/or technical leadership experience.
  • Experience designing complex products for high-volume manufacturing environments.
  • Strong engineering analysis, project planning, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound, data-driven decisions in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience managing or supervising engineering teams.
  • Experience with agile or hybrid hardware development methodologies and sprint planning.
  • Experience in datacenter product design or datacenter project engineering.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with experience working across Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Quality teams.
