Full Job Description
The Piping Materials Engineer will be responsible for applying extensive experience and technical expertise to lead, coordinate, and execute piping material engineering activities while ensuring consistency with client requirements, company standards, project specifications, and industry codes. Supports project execution through all phases of engineering, procurement, fabrication, and construction activities. Reports administratively to the Service Line Operations Manager and functionally to the assigned client Project Engineering Manager.

Responsibilities:
  • Reviews and provides direction for the development of piping material specifications, piping classes, valve specifications, specialty item specifications, and material requisitions
  • Develops and reviews technical bid evaluations for piping materials, valves, and specialty items
  • Coordinates with piping, process, mechanical, procurement, and construction teams to ensure material compatibility and project alignment
  • Ability to keep multiple internal and external teams/contractors on task
  • Ensures design document reviews are completed accurately and within the required timeframe, including checking activities
  • Reviews vendor drawings, technical documentation, and material submittals for compliance with project specifications and applicable codes
  • Continuous monitoring of contractor and vendor performance and compliance with project technical requirements
  • Participates in key design reviews and ensures design review readiness
  • Monitors changes against baseline scope and evaluates impacts on materials, cost, and schedule
  • Coordinates responses to technical and commercial queries from clients, vendors, and contractors
  • Responsible for maintaining technical integrity of piping material engineering deliverables for the facility
  • Ability to complete project tasks independently
  • Ability to identify technical and commercial issues and resolve independently or collaboratively to maintain project schedule, budget, and quality
  • Reviews or creates meeting minutes from project meetings
  • Responsible for input to project reporting and status updates
  • Supports procurement activities including material take-offs, requisitions, technical clarifications, and supplier coordination
  • Promotes values and ideals of company
  • Ability to facilitate internal and external project meetings
  • Demonstrates exemplary communication and organizational skills
  • Coordinates Management of Change (MOC) efforts
  • Develops/adjusts project support team workflow processes
  • Facilitates multidisciplinary communication and coordination
  • Resolves audit deficiencies and supports quality initiatives
  • Position requires candidate to work at assigned office location five days a week

Qualifications:

  • Greater than 10 years of experience in piping materials engineering roles within oil & gas, refinery, LNG, petrochemical, or chemical processing industries
  • Extensive knowledge of piping material specifications, ASME piping codes, and industry standards including:
    • ASME B31.3
    • ASME Section II/VIII
    • ASTM
    • API
    • MSS-SP
    • NACE
    • PIP standards
  • Experience developing:
    • Piping Material Specifications
    • Piping Class Specifications
    • Valve Specifications
    • Specialty Item Specifications
  • Experience with material selection for:
    • Corrosive services
    • High temperature services
    • Cryogenic services
    • Sour service applications
  • Familiarity with engineering software and tools such as:
    • SmartPlant Materials (SPMAT)
    • SmartPlant 3D (SP3D)
    • AutoCAD
    • Bluebeam
    • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong understanding of procurement, fabrication, inspection, and construction practices
  • Experience supporting vendor evaluations and technical bid analyses
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Strong team leadership capabilities
  • Capable of reviewing and approving deliverables for consistency and presentation
  • Can develop and manage manpower requirements for projects
  • Capable of coordinating project schedules
  • Capable of coordinating cost estimate
