The good-faith pay range for this role is $91,800 - $131,900 per year. Actual compensation may vary and may be above the posted range based on factors such as a candidate's skills, experience, education, certifications, and work location.What your job will be like:Perform engineering analyses in heat transfer, fluid flow, vibration, and stress to design and analyze particle accelerator systems and components such as SRF modules, magnets, cryogenic systems, and precision alignment structures. Utilize CAE tools like ANSYS and 3D CAD (NX) to create designs that comply with ASME and JLab standards, document them with fabrication drawings, and present technical reports during reviews. Responsibilities also include overseeing subcontracted component fabrication, collaborating with vendors and teams, ensuring proper documentation, and applying manufacturing techniques like CNC machining, sheet metal forming, and welding for serviceable designs.
In this job you will:- Design and analyze systems and components employed in particle accelerators systems to include; Superconducting Radio Frequency (SRF) components, cryomodules, normal conducting magnets, superconducting magnets.
- Also design and analyze the following systems: vacuum systems, cryogenic systems, cooling water systems, gas systems, precision alignment elements, and equipment support structures.
- Perform engineering analyses including heat transfer, fluid flow, vibration, and stress analysis.
- Utilize CAE tools such as finite element analysis software (ANSYS) as needed. Maintain proficiency in the use of the software so that these tasks can be done in a timely fashion.
- Design systems in accordance with applicable codes and standards, including: ASME piping, ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Codes, and JLab Pressure and Vacuum System Rules.
- Be a team member with designers and other engineers in the development of new system designs. Generate the designs utilizing 3D CAD (NX) models and document the design with 2D fabrication drawings.
- Present technical status reports, defend designs at engineering design and safety reviews.
- Serve as the responsible technical representative for the design, procurement and fabrication of subcontracted components. Interface with external vendors as necessary to ensure quality systems and components are fabricated, inspected, and delivered.
- Ensure all required documentation is generated to support the final design, fabrication, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of assigned systems.
- Demonstrate ability to design components for manufacture, assembly, and serviceability. Utilize knowledge of various manufacturing techniques including: rapid prototyping, CNC machining, sheetmetal forming, and welding.
Lead - Supervisory - Management- May lead technical staff of designers or technicians.
Experience- Required: 4 or more years Relevant Experience
Education- Preferred: Master's Degree
- Bachelor's Degree Mechanical Engineering required
