Full Job Description
HGA is seeking an Mechanical Engineering Department Manager to support operations in Baton Rouge, LA. The Mechanical Dept. Manager will provide the leadership to sustain and reinforce the vision and culture of the engineering business unit across multiple geographic locations by enforcing consistency among staff regarding procedures and execution of projects, and by promoting accountability, flexibility, efficiency, productivity, and teamwork. This role ensures compliance with Department Procedures with no exceptions, drives improvements to HGA's current systems to ensure accuracy and quality on projects, and provides guidance to staff in optimizing budget, schedule, and quality priorities. The Mechanical Department Manager maintains the proper relationship between staff, contract, and outsourced personnel to optimize profitability, availability, and utilization, and provides long-term manpower forecasting, recruiting, and management to satisfy those forecasts and business unit goals.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the overall performance, workload, and staffing of the Mechanical Engineering Department.
  • Enforce consistency in procedures and project execution across the department.
  • Ensure compliance with Department Procedures with no exceptions.
  • Provide technical leadership and quality oversight for mechanical engineering deliverables, including mechanical equipment datasheets, equipment lists, and pipe stress reports.
  • Guide staff in optimizing budget, schedule, and quality priorities on assigned projects.
  • Partner with the Baton Rouge Engineering Manager and Operations Manager to ensure proper utilization of resources, successful project execution, client satisfaction, and high employee morale.
  • Maintain the proper balance of staff, contract, and outsourced personnel to optimize profitability, availability, and utilization.
  • Develop long-term manpower forecasts and recruit and manage staff to satisfy forecasts and business unit goals.
  • Mentor and develop Mechanical Engineers.
  • Conduct employee performance reviews and support career development.
  • Drive continuous improvement of HGA's engineering systems, standards, and workflows to ensure accuracy and quality across projects.
  • Coordinate with other discipline department managers to support multi-discipline project execution and squad checks.
  • Support proposal development, budget estimating, and staffing plans for Mechanical scope on new and existing projects.
  • Ensure all Mechanical Engineering work complies with applicable codes and standards, including ASME, ASTM, API, and PIP.
  • Report department status, risks, and staffing needs to the Baton Rouge Engineering Manager.
Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university or college in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in mechanical design as a Mechanical Engineer.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the refining or petrochemical industry.
  • Experience with API 610, API 617, and API 618 required.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) registration in Louisiana by examination preferred.
