GENERAL PURPOSE OF THIS JOB (Summary)

The Mechanical Engineer delivers safe, "Best for Project" solutions for complex projects while ensuring regulatory compliance. Responsibilities include collaborating with other disciplines, creating and reviewing models and drawings, and completing necessary calculations to ensure systems perform as intended. The role requires a strong understanding of first principles, pumping, piping, mechanical actuation, hydraulics, pneumatics, HVAC, and relevant codes and standards. The Mechanical Engineer works under senior guidance, following company workflows and standards while improving technical skills.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
HEALTH AND SAFETY
  • Work in compliance with all Health and Safety rules and regulations for Cementation
  • Be aware of any health and safety hazards or infractions and report same to Health and Safety Department
  • Ensure all applicable safety codes and regulations are met by appropriate design and use of technology
  • Be a champion for safety, advocating safe behavior while incorporating safety into the designs produced by the group
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This description lists the core responsibilities and duties of the position. Additional duties deemed to be within the incumbent's capabilities, on an as required basis, might be assigned by management.
  • Design and specify components for mechanical and piping systems, ensuring compliance with necessary standards
  • Develop and document calculations ensuring compliance with relevant codes, standards, and regulations
  • Creation of accurate detailed design drawings that comply with company standards
  • Collaborate with Designers to ensure drawings reflect requirements
  • Communicate effectively and collaborate with structural and electrical disciplines
  • Assist procurement with technical questions, vendor assessments, and recommendations to ensure project requirements are met
  • Participate in design reviews, ensuring constructability, operability, maintainability and safety in all designs
  • Provide timely technical recommendations during construction in response to field inquiries
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews and reports on fabricated or constructed work to verify compliance with requirements
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of departmental standards in line with codes, regulations, and mining industry guidelines
  • Adhere to Cementation engineering standards
  • Perform other duties as assigned
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
  • This position has the requirement for occasional travel to project sites, offices, and/or to conduct shop reviews
  • Travel period may range from one day to several weeks and may include overseas assignments
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Has no direct reports, however, will oversee, check, and stamp the work of mechanical designers and EITs
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer or eligible to become registered within 1 year
  • Experience in discipline specific design for underground or heavy industrial infrastructure, piping, or material handling
  • Minimum 4 to 8 years of relevant experience
