Mechanical Division Quality Manager

The Mechanical Division Quality Control Manager is a corporate-level leadership role responsible for directing and standardizing the quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) program for pipe fabrication and field welding across the company's civil and industrial construction projects.

This role leads and develops a team of project-level Field Quality Managers deployed across multiple regions and concurrent projects, ensuring consistent application of quality standards, codes, and client requirements company-wide. Rather than performing day-to-day field inspection, this position sets direction for the quality function, allocates and develops quality talent, audits field-level performance, and serves as the point of accountability for mechanical and pipe welding quality across the organization.

Key Responsibilities
Lead, manage, and develop a team of project-level Field Quality Managers across all active regions and projects, including workload and project assignment, performance management, coaching, and career development.
Own and continuously improve the corporate mechanical/pipe welding quality program, establishing standardized processes, templates, and documentation requirements applied consistently by every Field Quality Manager.
Set company-wide quality standards for compliance with ASME B31.3 and other applicable piping and welding codes and ensure field quality managers correctly interpret and apply them on their projects.
Conduct periodic audits of Field Quality Managers' project sites, documentation, and inspection practices; identify gaps in execution and drive corrective action across the division.
Serve as the escalation point for complex nonconformance reports (NCRs), code interpretation questions, and client quality disputes that exceed project-level authority.
Standardize and oversee welding personnel qualification tracking (WPS/PQR/WPQ) and NDE/PWHT program requirements across all projects and regions, with Field Quality Managers executing at the project level.
Recruit, onboard, and train Field Quality Managers and project-level inspection staff; build bench strength and succession depth across the division.
Establish and monitor quality performance metrics (KPIs) across projects and regions; report trends, risks, and improvement initiatives to executive leadership.
Represent the mechanical quality function at the monthly Operations Leadership Team meeting and other executive forums, providing visibility into quality performance and emerging risk.
Partner with regional operations leadership, project management, and safety leadership to align quality staffing and practices with project schedules and budgets.
Own subcontractor and vendor quality oversight standards, ensuring third-party welding and fabrication work is held to the same code and documentation requirements as internal crews.
Support project teams during client and regulatory quality audits by deploying and directing Field Quality Managers, and by providing corporate-level oversight and documentation.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives across the division to reduce rework, delays, and quality-related cost impacts, and to raise the consistency of field quality management company-wide.

Ability to travel frequently, by air and ground transportation, to conduct site audits and support Field Quality Managers across all operating regions.
Ability to spend time on active construction and fabrication sites during audits and site visits, including exposure to outdoor conditions, noise, and industrial equipment.
Ability to wear and use required personal protective equipment (PPE) while on job sites.
Ability to walk, stand, and navigate active construction sites for extended periods during audits.
