About this role
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design and development of advanced thermal management and industrial cooling solutions. In this role, you will be responsible for taking cooling architecture ranging from HVAC systems to closed-loop water systems from concept through commissioning.
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in mechanical design, fluid flow, thermal dynamics, and compliance with ASME B31 piping codes, alongside strong proficiency in SolidWorks.
Key Focus: Design, analyze, and optimize industrial cooling loops, HVAC systems, and thermal machinery to meet performance and safety standards.

What You'll Be Doing:
• System Design & Modeling: Designing complete industrial cooling systems, HVAC equipment, and liquid cooling loops (water/glycol) using SolidWorks.
• Standards & Compliance: Applying ASME B31 codes (e.g., B31.1, B31.3, B31.5) and industry standards to ensure piping, valving, pressure vessels, and fluid delivery systems meet regulatory and safety requirements.
• Calculations & Optimization: Performing thermal, fluid dynamics, heat transfer, and pressure drop calculations to size pumps, chillers, heat exchangers, and piping.
• Engineering Documentation: Generating detailed 3D models, fabrication drawings, Bill of Materials (BOMs), piping schematics (P&IDs), and assembly instructions.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partnering with controls teams, manufacturing, and procurement to bring designs from concept to manufacturing and commissioning.

We are Looking for Someone Who:
• Has a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or a related engineering field.
• Has 5+ years of professional experience in mechanical design engineering. • Can demonstrate a proven track record designing industrial cooling systems, HVAC systems, or liquid cooling loops (e.g., pumps, chillers, heat exchangers, manifolds). • Possesses expert-level 3D CAD design and drawing creation using SolidWorks. • Possesses active Engineer in Training (EIT) / Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification.
• Has strong practical understanding and working knowledge of ASME B31 piping design codes.
• Can demonstrate a strong understanding of fluid dynamics, heat transfer, and thermodynamics.
• Possesses a practical knowledge of manufacturing processes (welding, sheet metal, machining, pipe fitting).
• Demonstrates high attention to detail with excellent communication and problem solving skills.
• Is able to manage multiple project deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred:
• Experience Level: 10+ years of progressive experience in thermal systems engineering or industrial fluid processing.
• Licensure: Active Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain. • PE license in HVAC and Refrigeration or Thermal Fluid Systems is preferred. • Data Management: Proficiency with SolidWorks PDM for revision control, workflow management, and engineering document organization.
• Simulation & Analysis: Hands-on experience performing
• FEA (SolidWorks Simulation or ANSYS Mechanical)
• CFD (ANSYS Fluent or similar)
• Process Simulation (ProMax or similar)
Work Environment:
• Able to move up to 15lbs.
• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Can wear PPE.
• Comfortable standing for long periods of time, up to and exceeding 60 minutes. • Is capable of making repetitive movements, including, but not limited to, sitting, squatting, and walking up and down stairs.
