Position Summary

The Mechanical & Design Engineer provides mechanical engineering and design support for capital projects and chemical manufacturing operations across the organization. This position is responsible for performing detailed engineering analysis, calculations, equipment specification, design, and technical documentation to support safe, efficient, and reliable project execution.

You will work closely with Project Managers, Engineers, Designers, Drafters, plant personnel, and other stakeholders to develop practical engineering solutions for chemical plants. The role requires the ability to work independently, including remotely, with minimal direction while effectively managing multiple priorities and supporting projects from concept through construction and implementation.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform detailed mechanical engineering analysis, calculations, design, and sketches for CapEx projects, plant support activities, and construction installations.
• Develop and review mechanical designs, engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, and other technical documentation.
• Review and approve key engineering drawings and calculations, including field documents, design documents, equipment layouts, and installation details.
• Develop equipment specifications for mechanical systems and equipment, including material handling systems, packaging equipment, pumps, piping, tanks, and related process equipment.
• Provide technical direction and engineering support to Designers, Drafters, Engineers, Project Managers, contractors, and plant personnel.
• Lead and/or support the development of mechanical design packages from conceptual design through detailed engineering and construction.
• Develop project scopes, engineering work plans, and estimates for mechanical engineering and design activities, including engineering hours and Total Installed Cost (TIC) estimates.
• Support project teams during construction, installation, commissioning, and startup activities by providing technical guidance and resolving field engineering issues.
• Conduct field investigations and site visits to gather information, verify existing conditions, and develop practical engineering solutions.
• Work from and contribute to 3D models and other digital engineering tools to support equipment and facility design.
• Ensure engineering designs comply with applicable company standards, industry codes, regulatory requirements, and recognized engineering practices.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams to identify design risks, resolve technical issues, and deliver projects safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively.
• Maintain organized engineering calculations, design records, specifications, drawings, and other project documentation.
• Provide technical support to operating plants as required, including troubleshooting and evaluation of mechanical equipment and systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience working in specialty chemicals.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in mechanical design engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience developing equipment specifications.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and experience working from 3D models.
• Working knowledge of applicable industry codes and regulatory requirements, including ANSI, OSHA, NFPA, ASME, API, and other applicable standards.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate engineering issues and develop practical solutions.
• Ability to prepare, document, and present engineering calculations and technical results in an organized and understandable manner.
• Ability and willingness to travel up to 50%.

The expected compensation range for this position is between $93,530.00 and $137,181.00 plus discretionary bonuses. The exact compensation may vary based on your skills, experience and other factors permitted by law.
