Position Summary

Magellan Aerospace, Middletown has an exciting opportunity for a Materials Manager to manage and direct purchasing, material and production planning, production control and logistics functions

Essential Responsibilities
  • Manages material and production planning function. Responsible for overseeing master scheduling, inventory control, capacity planning and MRP system use and planning parameter maintenance in support of customer demand and business goals.
  • Oversees production control activities ensuring material flow through production in support of the production plans to satisfy business goals and customer demands.
  • Manages procurement activities and is responsible for the optimum procurement of all purchased materials, parts, supplies, equipment and service.
  • Helps facilitate and oversee company-wide understanding of the Manufacturing Resource Planning process. Acts as the internal consultant on MRP providing direction and guidance throughout the company to improve the utilization and effectiveness of the MRP system.
  • Oversees shipping and receiving function including identifying, purchasing, and managing packaging supplies.
  • Advises employees on care and preservation of items received, stored, and shipped; methods and use of equipment in handling, storing, maintaining, and shipping stock; and related problems.
  • Directly supervises employees in responsible areas.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.


Position Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or five to seven years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
