GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under close supervision of a more experienced engineer, assists in performing material evaluation and analysis activities. Obtains and prepares materials for testing, completes tests and prepares report of findings. Conducts supplier surveys and assists with supplier process audits. Maintains and operates appropriate standard equipment.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assists in performing material testing/investigation activities, typically of a single product or material, according to product requirements and specifications.
  • Obtains and prepares material for testing and follows work instructions to complete tests. Prepares report of investigation findings and submits for review and approval.
  • interacts with suppliers and DENSO headquarters on routine issues and to obtain factual information related to products and materials.
  • Conducts supplier surveys to obtain and compile detailed benchmarking information.
  • Assists with auditing of suppliers' processes for specific type of materials.
  • Compiles information related to analysis planning.
  • Maintains appropriate standard equipment based upon specialty. Operates and maintains sensitive material testing equipment and jigs. May order chemicals and/or check inventories as directed.
  • Analyzes current processes, procedures and systems and makes recommendations for improvement for own job.
  • Under the direction of higher level Engineers/Management, may negotiate with suppliers to secure product materials.
  • Ensures compliance with general organization-wide and department-specific ISO/TS 16949 requirements.
  • Participates in and supports environmental ISO 14001 and safety activities by developing supporting goals and objectives, attending required training, complying with established procedures and initiating and implementing corrective actions, as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred : Material Science Engineering, Metallurgical or Equivalent
  • 0-3 years of related experience

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Familiarity of material in specific responsible area.
  • Analytical skills in order to gather and interpret information in situations where problems are of limited scope/difficulty. Tasks are generally performed in accordance with standard or established techniques/protocols but require alertness to identify discrepancies or obtain advice when precedents are unclear.
  • Written and verbal communication and presentation skills to primarily gather or exchange information with internal and external customers on factual matters. Partners with limited number of customers/stakeholders relating to business outcomes.
  • Customer service skills to interact and partner with a limited number of external customers related to business outcomes.
  • In-depth understanding and demonstrated competency in working with computer software and mainframe applications in order to manipulate, analyze, and reconcile data. In-depth knowledge of internet and explorer applications in order to retrieve and post data and research information.
