Full Job Description
THE JOB

As a Market Owner, you're at the helm of a market consisting of at least four hospitals in one geographical area, and have a sense of ownership over everything that happens at each location. Hospital leaders, including Medical Directors and Hospital Managers, report to you. While they oversee their individual functions and the day-to-day at their locations, you are accountable for the growth, success, and support of every VEGgie in your hospitals, as well as the financial goals of the VEGs in your market. By finding ways to say YES, you empower your teams to do the unexpected, fostering an environment where innovation and care go hand-in-hand. You ensure that customers remain central to everything your hospitals do and uphold the VEG experience at every touchpoint. Passionate about building and protecting VEG's brand, you instill confidence in local rDVMs, ensuring they know their customers and patients are in trusted hands. You collaborate with experts across every VEG department, bringing the best resources to your hospitals and making it possible for your teams to create extraordinary patient outcomes.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Drive multiple hospitals in your market, ensuring operational, clinical, and cultural excellence across every location
  • Coach and guide hospital leaders to drive growth, performance, and an outstanding customer experience
  • Build deep relationships with referring veterinarians and community partners to elevate VEG's reputation and referral network
  • Own and manage your market's P&L, evaluating financial performance, driving revenue growth, and building smart, sustainable budgets
  • Champion training and development by identifying growth opportunities, implementing initiatives, and ensuring clinical and operational upskilling
  • Hire and retain top talent, building high-performing, empowered teams through local networking, recruiting, and succession planning
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., HR, Legal, Technology) to bring resources, improvements, and innovations to your hospitals
  • Monitor market trends and competition to drive local growth, explore new services, and identify future hospital locations
  • Represent and protect the VEG brand in your region by engaging with your community and finding ways to give back
  • Foster a culture where VEGgies feel seen, heard and valued and want to grow and make an impact

WHO WE NEED
  • Come from any background (e.g. DVM, M.B.A., etc), and either have or are willing to gain clinical understanding
  • 7 to 10 years of relevant experience
  • Analytical, with the creative propensity to identify opportunities while staying focused on your mission
  • An experienced leader, well-versed in developing high performing teams, operating a service business, and presiding over a multi-site operational business
  • Live close to your hospitals and able to routinely work alongside your teams (for full days, varying days of the week, multiple times per month, with people in all roles)
  • Able to be in the field; 25% work from home, 75% on-site at local hospitals or off-site meetings
  • Must be willing to work in a noisy environment with strong or unpleasant odors.
  • Work well in a fast-paced environment with people from all backgrounds and different personality types

WHO YOU ARE
  • Empathetic, instinctively taking a people-centric approach, whether supporting your colleagues or making an effort to understand different perspectives
  • Have a sense of humility; acknowledging mistakes, sharing credit with others, and lifting up your team's' accomplishments
  • Feel a strong sense of ownership over your work, taking responsibility for outcomes and staying committed to achieving long-term, impactful results
  • Curious by nature; you ask insightful questions and continuously seek out opportunities to learn and grow your skills and knowledge

HOW WE INVEST IN YOU
  • Competitive compensation, including base, bonus and 401K match
  • Comprehensive health and wellness benefits that start on day one, including QPR training and access to free therapy or counseling
  • Based on your role, you may be eligible for equity after one year of full time, active employment with VEG, so you can share in our growth and success
  • A BIG focus on learning and growth, from VEG-created clinical and leadership programs to unlimited ER CE + travel stipend (no really!). Full-time credentialed VEGgies receive a $2,500/year travel stipend. Full-time uncredentialed VEGgies receive a $1,000/year travel stipend.
  • Clinical student loan repayment so you don't need to worry about your student debt
  • Paid parental leave, up to 12 weeks at 100% of regular salary and inclusive fertility and family-building care for all types of families
  • Flexible work schedules to support your life outside of work
  • Generous employee referral program, so our awesome people can bring in more awesome people
  • And the little (big) things, like comfy scrubs, cool VEG swag, and food in the fridge for when you're hungry

DEI

At VEG, diversity is not just a word-it's a strength that fuels innovation and kindness. Our mission is "Helping people and their pets when they need it most." And we do that better when our VEGgies (employees) feel valued, respected, and empowered to bring their authentic selves to work. That's why we're devoted to creating an environment that reflects the diverse communities we serve-where different perspectives are not only welcomed but celebrated.

We are focused on providing equitable opportunities for growth, promoting inclusive decision-making, and ensuring that everyone's perspective is considered. Saying yes to VEG means helping us build a culture where your unique experiences and background contribute to a shared vision: being the world's veterinary emergency company.
