Position Summary

Magellan Aerospace, Haverhill is a world-class manufacturer of precision machined aerospace components. We have an exciting opportunity for a Manufacturing Staff Accountant. The Staff Accountant - Cost Accounting Focus supports the Finance team in general accounting activities, with primary responsibility for manufacturing cost accounting, inventory, and cost of sales. This position assists with month-end close, analyzes manufacturing costs and variances, maintains accurate inventory valuations, and supports financial reporting and audit requirements. The role works closely with Finance and Operations to ensure accurate recording and analysis of material, labor, overhead, inventory, and production costs.

The salary range for this position is $80,000 - $99,000

Essential Responsibilities
  • Manufacturing Cost Accounting -- Analyze and cost manufacturing work orders in accordance with the company's established costing system. Review material, labor, and overhead charges for accuracy and investigate unusual cost activity.
  • Cost Data Analysis -- Collect, maintain, and analyze cost data related to raw materials, labor, overhead, inventory, and other manufacturing activities using Excel and company financial systems.
  • Month-End Close and Journal Entries -- Assist the Finance Manager with month-end closing activities, including preparing and posting journal entries related to cost of sales, inventory, scrap, manufacturing variances, accruals, and other assigned accounts.
  • Inventory Accounting -- Maintain and support the company's FIFO inventory valuation process. Assist with inventory reconciliations, cycle counts, physical inventories, obsolete and slow-moving inventory analysis, and other inventory-related accounting activities.
  • Audit Support -- Assist with internal and external audits by preparing requested schedules, supporting documentation, inventory records, and other audit materials.
  • Other Accounting Responsibilities -- Process routine and ad hoc financial analyses and assist with other general accounting responsibilities and projects as assigned by the Finance Manager.
  • Payroll Backup Support -- Serve as backup for payroll processing as needed. Assist with reviewing payroll data, employee time records, payroll reports, deductions, and related entries to help ensure accurate and timely payroll processing. Maintain appropriate confidentiality of employee and payroll information.

Position Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or Five (5) to Ten (10) years' experience or equivalent combination of education and experience in Manufacturing
  • Experience working with Great Plains, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft word, SAP
  • Good analytical and organizational skills.
  • Good knowledge of Excel and computerized accounting and costing systems.
