Job Description

Reporting to the Plant Engineering Manager, the Manufacturing Mechanical Engineer is responsible for technical ownership of an inherited line retrofit with known scope misses and immovable schedule constraints. The Manufacturing Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for rapidly learning both legacy and new process and manufacturing methods and identifying and closing process and equipment gaps by scoping, designing, quoting, and submitting CAPEX change orders required to produce the new products that justified the retrofit, while ensuring successful run-off producing quality sellable product.

Responsibilities

  • Achieve working fluency in legacy and new process flows, CTQs, constraints, and failure modes
  • Build and maintain a Gap Register including missing equipment/capability, consequences, options, cost/lead time, install window and risks
  • Convert gaps into executable packages: scope, design intent, RFQs, quotes, CAPEX and change orders, and acceptance criteria
  • Ensure mechanical process readiness for run-off including utilities, guarding, access, maintainability, safety integration, and training artifacts
  • Become fluent with Project Transfer documentation to absorb constraints, decision trail, and daily priorities
  • Document legacy vs. new process differences and identify what is required to achieve "quality, sellable product" at run-off
  • Develop a working map of CTQs and process windows for legacy and new products
  • Own scope development for missing equipment and capabilities including process equipment, material handling, thermal and process systems and instrumentation, utilities
  • Develop RFQ packages and coordinate vendor engagement; compress lead times by issuing early and refining with addenda as needed
  • Drive change orders and CAPEX with objective success metrics and acceptance criteria; maintain change control and document assumptions
  • Coordinate install windows and commissioning readiness with PM, maintenance, contractors, and the Controls Engineer
  • Partner tightly with the Rockwell Controls Engineer to ensure instruments and field devices and control requirements are aligned early
  • Ensure the installed reality matches run-off needs


Qualifications

  • Minimum 3-5 years direct experience and responsibility for industrial automation in a manufacturing environment
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Systems Engineering, Computer Science or related field preferred
  • Hands-on experience scoping and implementing process equipment changes in a live plant environment required
  • Previous experience with executable scopes including RFQs, cost and lead time assessment, installation planning, acceptance testing plans required
  • Ability to operate under ambiguity early and converge rapidly to execution discipline
  • Previous experience with line retrofits, brownfield projects, or inherited projects with incomplete scope preferred
  • Previous experience supporting commissioning and run-off and defining objective acceptance criteria preferred
  • Previous experience writing CAPEX justifications and managing change orders preferred
