The Role

Are you a passionate ergonomics subject matter expert who wants to leave a lasting mark on how one of the world's largest automakers builds its engines and propulsion systems? As the GPS (Global Propulsion Systems) Ergonomics Technical Specialist, you will serve as the Single Point of Contact connecting GM's Global Ergonomics team to GPS Manufacturing Engineering (ME) and GPS Manufacturing Operations (MO) teams worldwide. This is a high-visibility, high-impact role where you will provide ergonomic technical training, coaching, and support towards the implementation of the UAW-GM and Global GM Ergonomic process. You will drive innovation, jointly where required, to better identify and resolve ergonomic risk of injury within the GPS Manufacturing Operations.

What You'll Do

You will have a high level of autonomy being supported by the Sr. Manager, Global Ergonomics & Industrial Hygiene, Manufacturing Ergonomics Technical Fellow, and Workplace Ergonomic Manager to act as the subject matter expert in the field of ergonomics and lead the continuous improvement of ergonomics standardized work across GPS new and current programs - from virtual builds and tooling buyoffs all the way through Start of Regular Production (SORP) and current production. You will be the go-to expert, trainer, and problem-solver for a global community of New Program Ergonomists and plant ergonomic joint teams.

  • Lead the development and standardization of ergonomics processes for new programs, ensuring consistent use of standards, thresholds, and risk assessment tools across all phases.


  • Design and deliver effective training to engineering and operations teams to build capability and ensure consistent execution of ergonomic processes.


  • Provide expert guidance to Manufacturing Engineering and Operations teams on ergonomic analysis, risk assessments, and design solutions throughout the program lifecycle.


  • Partner with plant leadership, JETTs, and cross-functional teams to identify ergonomic risks and support implementation of sustainable corrective actions.


  • Drive continuous improvement by capturing lessons learned from plant operations and integrating them into future designs and standardized processes.


  • Ensure program continuity by providing backup support to New Program Ergonomists to meet key milestones, as needed.


  • Collaborate with global leadership to advance ergonomics standards, tools, and strategy, supporting a long-term goal of eliminating ergonomic-related injuries.


Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
  • Bachelor's degree in industrial engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Kinesiology, Human Kinetics, Biomedical Engineering, Industrial Systems, or related fields.
  • 5+ years of experience as an Ergonomics Subject Matter Expert within automotive manufacturing
  • Ability to travel between 25% and 50% as required
  • Proven ability to analyze complex challenges, develop practical solutions, and apply advanced problem-solving techniques to non-standard ergonomic issues.
  • Experience developing and implementing data-driven strategies to reduce ergonomic risk and effectively communicate the value of ergonomics initiatives.


  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders across all levels and navigate differing perspectives.


  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, evolving environments, making informed decisions with limited or ambiguous information.


  • Experience delivering training, coaching, and mentorship on ergonomics tools, processes, and best practices.


What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Professional Ergonomics Certification (CPE/CIE)


  • Minimum 2 years of experience within GPS


  • Profound knowledge of Global Ergonomics guidelines, standards, specifications, and risk analysis tools


  • Demonstrated track record of driving innovation and exploration of new technologies.


  • Experience with Digital Human Modeling (DHM) tools


  • Experience evaluating advanced design concepts and future technologies for ergonomic acceptability,


  • Demonstrated experience collaborating cross-functionally
