Materials Engineering Manager - New Product Introduction
As a member of Keysight's New Product Introduction - Shared Services Team (NPI-SS), the Materials Engineering Manager will provide strategic and technical leadership for the Materials Engineering team responsible for board-mountable electronics, components, preferred materials, supplier technical engagement, and manufacturing readiness across Keysight. This role leads a team of materials engineers supporting new product introductions, sustaining engineering, supplier qualification, component selection, product lifecycle risk mitigation, and cross-functional execution with R&D, Procurement, Supply Chain, Quality, Manufacturing, and external suppliers.
Responsibilities
Major Duties:
• Lead, develop, and manage a team of Materials Engineers supporting Keysight NPI programs, sustaining products, and supply chain initiatives
• Provide technical leadership for board-mountable electronics, component selection, approved manufacturer strategies, preferred parts, material substitutions, and supplier technical evaluations
• Partner with R&D, Procurement, Global Commodity Management, Quality, Manufacturing, and NPI teams to ensure components, assemblies, and materials meet design, reliability, manufacturability, cost, compliance, and supply continuity objectives
• Represent Keysight with suppliers and contract manufacturers on proposed designs, component technologies, manufacturing processes, technical issues, and qualification plans
• Establish priorities, resource plans, and execution strategies across multiple concurrent NPI and sustaining engineering projects
• Drive component and supplier qualification activities, including part and supplier identification, evaluation, risk assessment, qualification, and lifecycle management
• Analyze new product designs, assemblies, and bills of material to identify opportunities to improve reliability, quality, manufacturability, cost, and long-term supply resilience
• Lead root cause analysis and corrective action for material, component, supplier, and manufacturing-related technical issues
• Define, implement, and sustain permanent solutions to technical manufacturing and supplier quality problems
• Support product lifecycle activities including component obsolescence mitigation, PCN/PDN review, alternate source qualification, material compliance support, and engineering change execution
• Promote teamwork, accountability, continuous improvement, and cooperative engagement across functional organizations and geographic sites
• Apply appropriate quality, Lean, and continuous improvement processes to improve team effectiveness, cycle time, first-pass success, and customer outcomes
• Develop team capability through coaching, performance management, knowledge sharing, succession planning, and technical skill development
Qualifications
Required Skills:
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in materials engineering, component engineering, manufacturing engineering, supply chain engineering, or related electronics manufacturing environment
• Experience leading technical teams, projects, or cross-functional engineering initiatives
• Experience reviewing and selecting digital, analog, RF, power, interconnect, electromechanical, and other board-mountable components for specific design applications
• Strong understanding of electronic component technologies, manufacturing processes, supplier capabilities, component lifecycle management, and product reliability considerations
• Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional work with R&D, Procurement, Quality, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Product Lines, contract manufacturers, and suppliers
• Strong problem-solving skills with demonstrated experience in root cause analysis, corrective action, and technical risk assessment
• Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, escalations, and stakeholder expectations concurrently in a fast-paced NPI and sustaining engineering environment
Desired Skills:
• Working knowledge of Oracle, Agile/Enovia/3DX, or similar ERP and PLM systems
• Experience with Keysight Life Cycle (KLC), NPI phase reviews, engineering change processes, MLAR BOM risk analysis, approved manufacturer lists, and component lifecycle tools
• Familiarity with PCN/PDN processes, obsolescence management, alternate source qualification, supplier corrective action, and commodity risk mitigation
• Experience working with contract manufacturers, global suppliers, commodity managers, and procurement teams in high-mix, low-volume, high-reliability electronics environments
• Demonstrated project management capability, including prioritization, schedule management, stakeholder alignment, and risk tracking
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, Teams, SharePoint, reporting dashboards, and data-driven decision-making tools
Pay Range:
USD $134,950.00 - USD $224,920.00 Year
