Job Description:

As the Manufacturing Engineer, you will provide technical expertise necessary to design all aspects of production, costs, quality, compliance to safety guidelines, and environmental requirements for manufacturing.

What You Will Do:

• Preventative Maintenance and Calibration (60% of the role):  
  • Inspect, service, and maintain laboratory testing instrumentation to maximize equipment reliability and runtime.  
  • Log all maintenance history and calibration compliance   
  • Train and guide Laboratory Managers and lab personnel on the proper daily care, handling, and basic maintenance of instrumentation.  
  • Liaison with OEMs when equipment requires specialized outside servicing.  
  • Monitor maintenance activity, track equipment downtime costs, and report instrument availability to upper management.   
• Reactionary Maintenance & Troubleshooting (20% of the role):  
  • Diagnose hardware and software issues dynamically to determine if repairs can be addressed internally or require vendor intervention.  
  • Perform Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) to understand why an instrument failed and prevent recurrence.  
  • Swiftly resolve emergency equipment breakdowns to minimize impact on sample testing turnaround times.   
• Purchasing, Inventory, & Continuous Improvement (20% of the role):  
  • Manage the spare parts inventory, standardizing the parts ordering processes to maintain cost-efficiency while reducing wait times for critical repairs.  
  • Collaborate with procurement to establish backup suppliers for high-priority items.  
  • Support Lean and 5S initiatives, working collaboratively across cross-functional lab teams to implement efficiency upgrades.  

What You Have (Basic Requirements):

·         Collaborative Automation: Knowledge of techniques and processes of collaborative automation; ability to develop and deploy cobots to automate manufacturing processes.

·         Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.

·         Engineering - MFG: Knowledge of processes, techniques and methods of engineering in a manufacturing environment; ability to design and implement materials, structures, machines, devices, systems and processes that safely realize a desired objective or invention.

·         Lean Manufacturing: Knowledge of the philosophy, principles and implementation approaches of lean manufacturing; ability to integrate and implement lean manufacturing philosophy into existing production and management processes. 

·         Manufacturing Processes: Knowledge of existing product manufacturing methods, technologies and processes; ability to execute, plan, manage and monitor the entire manufacturing process.

·         Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.

·         Project Management: Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.

·         Robotic Process Automation (RPA): Knowledge of techniques and processes of robotic process automation (RPA); ability to develop and deploy RPA solutions in various industries.

• Education Requirement: Bachelor’s in Chemistry or related  

• Technical Skills: Strong technical aptitude for troubleshooting scientific equipment, working within CMMS networks, and interpreting technical manuals; ability to work under tight production deadlines.   

• Travel: Ability to occasionally travel for business purposes (e.g., supporting remote laboratory locations or vendor training).
