Full Job Description
Job Summary:

The Manager, Transmission Market Analytics acts as a technical expert in the simulation of the energy market and as an analyst of key metrics including LMP, congestion, nodal LMP Forecasts, basis and curtailment. He or she will assist the team in evaluating acquisition opportunities, determine optimal locations for the placement of renewable energy projects, identify transmission service availability and review independent third-party studies related to potential commercial transactions through analysis of energy markets.

The Manager will work with internal and external stakeholders to review and track potential impacts to the future transmission system including interconnection queue positions, generator retirement announcements, transmission plans, load growth, regulatory actions and policy changes.

This position requires excellent communication and collaboration skills as well as the ability to work well under pressure, multi-task, and shift priorities on the go. The successful candidate will be well organized, comfortable in a dynamic environment, have strong attention to detail, and can synthesize and conceptualize complex ideas. A passion for renewable energy is a plus.

Essential Functions:
  • Support the Transmission group with the development of strategic and tactical plans.
  • Provide advice and recommendations about critical transmission issues related to potential commercial power transactions, planning issues and real-time operational issues.
  • Keep abreast of developments across the power & renewables industry
  • Perform quantitative research, econometric analysis and forecasting on power and fuel markets utilizing internal models and contribute to the development of company's market analytics platform (Zonal, Long Term Capacity Expansion and Nodal models)
  • Running SCED analysis for operating and development projects, including ad hoc sensitivity analyses, and providing direct guidance and support to the Development, and Commercial groups.
  • Develop and refine process controls and quality assurance methods to benchmark and validate power system and SCED models (including Dayzer, PROMOD and similar platforms) and ensure model accuracy.
  • Manage and maintain power system modeling information databases.
  • Training others in the use of SCED (PROMOD/Encompass/Dayzer) and supporting software.
  • Support tax equity and cash equity transactions on matters related to congestion and curtailment that arise during financing transactions
  • Identifying unique transmission solutions for reliability and/or economic constraints in various planning regions.
  • Testify before regulatory agencies regarding transmission & interconnection matters
  • Represent Leeward and maintain productive relationships with assigned utilities, ISOs, industry groups, regulators and other stakeholders in assigned geographic areas on issues related to transmission and interconnection.
  • Participate in stakeholder forums to understand industry concerns and direction with respect to grid connected renewable resources and provide leadership in such forums on issues related to development of Leeward projects.
  • Support Government Affairs in the development of renewable resource policies
  • Assist and support Transmission Interconnection and Network Staff as needed
    • Prepare and submit interconnection requests
    • Coordinate with external consultants supporting Leeward's effort
    • Oversee utility interconnection studies so they are reasonable and timely
    • Negotiate utility interconnection agreements, affected system agreements and engineering and procurement agreements

Develop and negotiate business arrangements to remove obstacles to project interconnections and reduce interconnection costs

Qualifications:
  • 6-8+ years' experience in transmission planning or economic modeling using PROMOD, Encompass, Plexos, Gridview, Dayzer, Aurora or other market simulation tools.
    • Proficient in transmission system planning, transmission construction and operation topics.
    • Experience in detailed economic modeling of transmission networks, thermal and renewable generators, experience in wholesale power markets and congestion analytics.
    • Ability to establish strong working relationships with utilities, ISOs and industry representatives.
    • Proficient in public speaking, presentation skills, explaining complex technical topics and writing of technical reports.
    • Strong collaboration and problem-solving skills, with solid understanding of transmission shift factors, statistics, probabilistic analysis, and advanced engineering principles.
    • Working knowledge of databases including MS Access, MySQL, SQL Server strongly preferred.
    • Working knowledge of automation scripts such as VB, VB.net and python for development of automation modules is preferred.
    • Proficient use of all Microsoft Office suite programs


Please Note: This is an in-office role, requiring on site presence in our office a minimum of three days per week with hybrid flexibility of working remotely two days per week, subject to manager and policy approval. #LIHybrid

LRE considers several factors when determining compensation, including a candidate's education, training, and experience. In compliance with the Illinois Equal Pay Act, the salary range for the Manager, Transmission Market Analytics is between $124,000 to $172,000 annually. Compensation is set within the range based on each candidate's background, with the potential to grow as responsibilities and experience increase. This position also includes a comprehensive benefits package, including a 401(k)-retirement plan, health, dental, vision, and life insurance. Physical Demands:
  • This position will travel 20% of time
  • Position will require sitting for long periods of time as well as occasionally lifting up to twenty-pound boxes.
