POSITION SUMMARY

Since Axiom Space is a very complex work environment, we are looking for a resilient, high-energy Manager, Systems Engineering. As a Manager, Systems Engineering, you will be a mid-level leader responsible for leading the systems engineering team, overseeing SE methodology application, requirements management, and technical integration activities. This role drives adoption of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) practices and ensures consistency in SE processes across the team's programs. The Manager of Systems Engineering serves as a technical point of contact for systems engineering deliverables, coordinating with other engineering disciplines and program leadership. This position also supports SE talent development, mentoring team members on systems engineering tools and methodologies.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leads the systems engineering team, overseeing requirements management, system architecture, and integration strategy

  • Owns accountability for systems engineering deliverables, ensuring alignment with program requirements and performance objectives

  • Develops and manages budgets, resource plans, and staffing strategies for systems engineering initiatives

  • Conducts performance evaluations, career development, and mentorship for systems engineering personnel

  • Partners with cross-functional and executive leadership to align systems engineering strategy with program and business goals

  • Oversees resolution of complex system integration, verification, and validation challenges

  • Establishes and enforces systems engineering processes, standards, and regulatory compliance

  • Leads recruitment, onboarding, and workforce planning for the systems engineering team

  • Represents systems engineering in program reviews, executive briefings, and stakeholder meetings

  • Champions continuous improvement and maturity of systems engineering practices across the organization

  • Communicating project progress, status, and potential issues to stakeholders and leadership

Education & Experience

  • 8+ years of systems engineering (SE) experience alongside 3+ years of formal SE team management experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in systems engineering or a related technical field, required

  • Master’s degree in systems engineering or an MBA, preferred Track record of making things happen in ambiguous, fast-moving environments

  • Uses good judgement to problem-solve proactively, positively impacting hard challenges

  • Demonstrated organization skills to meet tight deadlines with high-quality results

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task.

Requirements

  • This position may require access to export controlled technical data or technology subject to NASA regulations, International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), or Export Administration Regulations (EAR). In accordance with U.S. export control laws, final candidates may be required to undergo additional export control screening to determine eligibility for access. Meeting these requirements is a condition of employment

  • Management has the prerogative to select at any level for which the position is advertised

  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends as needed to meet critical project milestones
