About the positionDutiesThe Manager, Survey Standards and Regulations Unit serves as the subject matter expert responsible for administering the regulatory functions of the Canada Lands Survey System by reviewing and verifying legal survey documents for compliance with established standards, regulations, policies, and legislation prior to recording.
The position provides senior-level technical and professional advice to clients, stakeholders, and Surveyor General Branch (SGB) management on complex survey, cadastral, and property rights matters; ensures the integrity and effective administration of property rights systems on Canada Lands; oversees the consistent application of survey standards and regulatory requirements; manages the Unit's human resources, including staff supervision, performance management, and professional development; and directs the day-to-day operations, planning, quality assurance, and continuous improvement activities necessary to support the effective delivery of survey and cadastral services.
Intent of the process The intent is to staff one (1) indeterminate position (full-time, permanent) at the EN-SUR-04 group and level, located in Ottawa, Ontario (580 Booth Street).
A pool of fully or partially qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions at the EN-SUR-04 group and level within the Surveyor General Branch with various tenures (determinate period or permanent). The language requirements (English Essential, French Essential, English or French Essential and Bilingual), the method to staff a bilingual position (imperative and/or non-imperative), and linguistic profiles (BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC, CCC/CCC, etc.) may vary, as well as security requirements (Reliability Status, Secret), and conditions of employment.

You need (essential for the job) Your application must clearly explain how you meet the following A license with the Association of Canada Lands Surveyors as a Canada Lands Surveyor.
NOTE: Candidates who do not meet this occupational certification requirement at the time of application must demonstrate that, by the time of appointment, they have the right to practice as a land surveyor in a Canadian province and are eligible to obtain a Canada Lands Surveyor Commission and a licence to practise issued by the Association of Canada Lands Surveyors.
A minimum of five years of experience as a licensed surveyor providing boundary or cadastral advice.
Experience managing human resources.
Applied / assessed at a later date Knowledge of legislation, policies, standards and regulations related to land surveys on Canada Lands.

Over 10 years of experience providing cadastral surveying services as a land surveyor.
Experience in working with, collaborating with, or providing services to Indigenous communities.
Experience in land surveying on Canada Lands in remote areas.
2 years of experience in a standards and regulatory unit or in reviewing surveying plans.
