ABOUT YOU

As a Manager, Survey Department, you are a thoughtful and technically skilled leader who combines sound judgment, attention to detail, and strategic thinking to guide complex surveying and property-related initiatives that support critical infrastructure and operational decisions. You excel at building strong relationships, developing high-performing teams, navigating complex stakeholder environments, and translating technical information into actionable insights while maintaining the highest standards of accuracy, compliance, and public service.

What you will do:
  • Leads the strategic and day-to-day operations of the Survey Unit, overseeing workforce planning, budgeting, staff development, performance management, labor relations, and the successful delivery of surveying services across Massport's facilities and infrastructure projects.
  • Directs land-based, hydrographic, and aircraft obstruction surveying activities, ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and maintenance of critical survey control networks, property records, and construction-related measurements that support operational and capital initiatives.
  • Partners with internal departments, consultants, utilities, government agencies, and external stakeholders to manage complex surveying, property, and infrastructure matters, while ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements, contractual obligations, and organizational priorities.
  • Provides expert technical leadership on property boundaries, legal descriptions, ground leases, and land rights, supporting construction projects, risk management, litigation, and regulatory proceedings through thorough analysis, documentation, and professional testimony when required.

What you offer:
  • 4 Year College Degree Required. Ability to communicate matters of land title, matters of spatial orientation, matters concerning labor, and matters concerning budget (orally and written) in Standard English required.
  • 10-15 years of land surveying experience with at least 5 years in a supervisor/management role required. Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Massachusetts Registered Professional Land Surveyor license required.
  • Working knowledge of 250 CMR requirements. Knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, and Calson Software is desirable.
