What You'll Do

As the Manager, Store Modernization, you will lead the planning, governance, and execution of strategic store network initiatives across the SportChek retail portfolio.

Acting as a key integration point across Real Estate, Design, Procurement, Construction, Merchandising, Operations, Marketing, Finance, and Planning teams, you will help ensure modernization investments and store projects align with business objectives, customer needs, and long-term network strategy. You will provide leadership across a portfolio of store network, modernization, and capital investment initiatives that support the evolution of the business and future growth priorities. Through strong cross-functional partnerships, data-driven decision making, and effective governance, you will support the successful delivery of projects while identifying opportunities to improve store performance, customer experience, operational efficiency, and long-term investment decisions.

This role is responsible for establishing scalable planning and governance processes, providing strategic recommendations to leadership, and developing the capabilities, tools, and resources required to support effective capital planning, modernization initiatives, and future growth. The Manager, Store Modernization also provides leadership, coaching, and development support to direct reports while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Manage a high-performing Retail Modernization function by building team capability, fostering accountability, and creating scalable processes that support evolving business needs
  • Drive long-term network planning activities by evaluating store performance, profitability, DNP and productivity trends, lease events, market opportunities, and strategic investment priorities to inform future network and investment decisions
  • Steward capital planning and modernization programs by establishing investment priorities, assessing business opportunities, and ensuring disciplined execution of store and fixture investments
  • Oversee the planning, prioritization, and execution of retail modernization initiatives, including store openings, relocations, renovations, expansions, closures, and other store investments
  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to align priorities, manage dependencies, and deliver store network initiatives that support enterprise objectives
  • Establish governance, reporting, and decision-support processes that improve execution, visibility, accountability, and leadership decision-making
  • Provide executive-ready analysis, communications, and strategic recommendations related to store network strategy, modernization priorities, and capital investments
  • Ensure the integrity and continuous improvement of store planning data, reporting tools, and business processes that support modernization and network planning activities


What You Bring
  • Proven leadership experience with a demonstrated ability to develop talent, build team capability, and drive accountability in a high-performance environment
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and align cross-functional stakeholders, navigate ambiguity, and drive decisions across multiple functions and leadership levels
  • Deep understanding of retail operations, store development, capital investment planning, and modernization processes, with experience managing complex initiatives from strategy through execution
  • Strong business, financial, and analytical acumen, with the ability to leverage store performance, profitability, and customer insights to inform strategic decision-making and investment priorities
  • Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills, with experience developing executive presentations, business cases, and strategic recommendations for senior leadership audiences
  • Strong project, portfolio, and governance management capabilities, with a track record of balancing competing priorities while delivering business outcomes
  • University degree in Business, Retail Management, Project Management, Real Estate, Design, Construction Management, or a related discipline; equivalent experience will be considered
  • Project Management certification or equivalent experience is considered an asset
