Full Job Description
Position Overview:

As Avalyn Pharma advance from a pre-commercial company into the next phase of our growth, we are seeking an HR Manager or Sr. Manager who is eager to develop broad, cross-functional HR expertise rather than specialize narrowly in a single function.

This opportunity is ideal for an HR professional early-to-mid in their career who is naturally curious about the discipline and excited by variety. One day you may partner on full-cycle recruiting, another you may lead a compliance audit, build an intern program from the ground up, or improve the systems that support our People operations. This is intentionally a broad role designed to build expertise across the full employee lifecycle while working alongside a small, collaborative HR team committed to your development. This role will report into the VP, HR.

Key Responsibilities:

Talent Acquisition - Partner on the Hiring Journey
  • Partner with hiring managers and external recruiting partners to define hiring strategies, role requirements, success profiles, and interview processes
  • Contribute to sourcing strategy and help maintain strong candidate pipelines across clinical, regulatory, and G&A functions
  • Manage and continuously improve Greenhouse workflows, including coordination with external recruiting partners
  • Help ensure a candidate's experience consistent with Avalyn's culture and standards
  • Support offer development and compensation alignment, with guidance from HR leadership as this skill set develops

Intern Program - Build and Lead a HR Initiative
  • Own Avalyn's summer intern program from design through execution
  • Partner with business leaders to identify meaningful project work and deliver a strong intern experience
  • Use this initiative as an opportunity to build program management and leadership capability

Compliance & Audit - Build a Strong HR Foundation
  • Own compliance tracking across federal, state, and multi-state employment law requirements
  • Lead leave of absence administration, including FMLA and MA PFML
  • Manage I-9 processing, background checks, and employment verifications
  • Take the lead on internal and external audits, including payroll, benefits, and worker classification, as a means of developing deep HR expertise
  • Maintain audit-ready records and partner with HR leadership on policy interpretation

HR Operations & Systems - Shape How We Work
  • Play a leading role in core lifecycle processes, including onboarding, offboarding, transfers, and employee data integrity
  • Support HRIS and systems administration, ensuring data accuracy across Greenhouse, ADP Workforce Now, Absorb, and related platforms
  • Identify process inefficiencies and implement scalable solutions, including checklists, templates, and documentation
  • Partner with payroll to ensure accurate, timely processing

Qualifications:

Required
  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree with 5-8+ years of progressive Human Resources experience, including exposure to talent acquisition, HR operations, or a combination of both
  • Demonstrated curiosity and a desire to build expertise across multiple Human Resources disciplines
  • Comfort operating in a fast-paced, evolving environment with shifting priorities and expanding scope
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, with a collaborative, team-oriented approach
  • Experience with an ATS (e.g., Greenhouse) and/or HRIS platform (e.g., ADP Workforce Now) preferred but not required; training will be provided

Preferred
  • Experience in biotech, life sciences, or another high-growth industry
  • Exposure to compliance, leave administration, audit support, or other core HR operational functions
  • A demonstrated track record of building a program, process, or workflow from the ground up
