Basic Purpose
Provides overall direction, functional guidance, coordination and management to lead the corporate safety and health program. Allocates resources to meet the needs of senior management, business leaders and employees and ensure a safe and healthy work environment.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develops long-range plans in support of company safety goals and objectives. Creates and implements a strategic approach to improve safety performance within all of the Company's facilities and business units. Develops and implements programs designed to eliminate safety and health risks, injuries, illnesses and financial losses. Ensures programs are compliant with applicable regulations. Counsels all levels of employees on best practices in safety management.
  • Provides leadership and functional supervision for a team of specialists within the department. Ensures consistency among staff, adherence to customer service standards, assists in the development of policy, coordinates workload and assists front-line management in improving performance.
  • Responsible for compliance with Company hearing conservation and respiratory fit testing programs. Oversees and ensures compliance with all federal, state and Company required safety training programs in northern Nevada (MSHA, OSHA, NGST, PHMSA, Public Safety, Overhead Line Clearance, DOT, etc.) Serves as point-of-contact for federal and state safety related regulatory inquiries and inspections in northern Nevada.
  • Advises and provides direction to management to ensure a safe and healthy workplace. Ensures utilization of a highly trained workforce capable of meeting the skill levels required to be successful in the constantly changing utility industry.
  • Provides the vision and direction for accident prevention processes, employee safety training, employee health and wellness and public safety education efforts.
  • Has authority to stop work because of unsafe work practices or conditions.
  • Monitors and enforces all compliance requirements for area of responsibility.
  • Ensures all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes and regulations applicable to position and company.

Qualifications

Essential Education, Skills, and Environment
Education and Work Experience
Bachelor's degree in a related area and 6 years of related experience. Must possess OSHA 30 within 60 days of hire.

Candidates that do not possess a bachelor's degree must have a minimum of 10 years of related work experience. Must possess OSHA 30 within 60 days of hire.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills
Demonstrated knowledge of:
  • federal, state and local regulatory agencies and regulations, and enforcement practices (e.g. OSHA, MSHA, DOT-PHMSA-OPS, PUCN, NFPA, ANSI, ASTM, etc.).
  • Problem-solving and conflict resolutions, interpersonal and communication.
  • Customer relations and organizational.

Equipment and Applications
PCs, word processing, spreadsheet and database software.

Work Environment and Physical Demands
General office environment. No special physical demands required.
