Full Job Description
Summary

This position is responsible for the daily operations, staffing and leadership management for rehab therapy services provided in the assigned department(s) of responsibility.

Responsibilities

(40%)* Maintains positive rapport with employee, physicians, insurance carriers, universities, local community members such as businesses and service organizations, and others to promote MyMichigan's rehabilitation services and build positive relationships.

(30%)* Prepares the annual department budget. Completes a monthly variance report of revenues/expenditures. Maintains adequate inventory of supplies. Provides recommendations and requests for small capital and major capital expenditures annually.

(30%)* Markets MyMichigan rehabilitation services to physicians, affiliates, other healthcare providers, businesses and educational institutions and patients using quality management techniques.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintains and updates, as needed, policies and procedures that promote efficiency, safety and compliance with accrediting body standards. Assures department compliance with all regulatory and accrediting agencies for the Medical Center including Joint Commission and the Michigan Department of Community Health.

Works closely with the other MyMichigan Health Rehabilitation Services Managers to identify strategic initiatives that promote a cohesive system-wide approach, excellent customer service and quality-driven patient care.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Certifications and Licensures

Credential: Rehab Services Licensure

Equivalent Experience: For Physical Therapist (PT): Graduate of a physical therapy curriculum approved by the American Physical Therapy Association. APTA membership. For Occupational Therapist (OT): Completion of Bachelor of Science or Masters of Science in OT. AOTA and MOTA memberships. Certification from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). For Speech Language Pathologist (SLP): Completion of Master's Degree in Speech Language Pathology from an accredited university and have received certificate of Clinical Competence. ASHA membership.

Credential:BLS: Basic Life Support

Credential:NIMS IS 100: NIMS IS 100 Introduction Incident Command System

Equivalent Experience: Within 6 months of hire or transfer

Credential:NIMS IS 700: NIMS IS 700 Introduction National Incident Mgt System

Credential:NIMS IS 200: NIMS IS 200 Basic Incident Command System Initial Response

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SKILLS:

Minimum two years clinical experience in the field of physical therapy, occupational therapy, or speech language pathology as normally acquired by working in a Medical Center or similar setting. Knowledge of management practices as normally acquired through two years supervisory experience, preferred.

Verbal, written, and interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner.

Must demonstrate strong clinical leadership with the ability to work effectively with physicians, department staff and other departments throughout MyMichigan Health.

Must be proficient with computer applications including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel. Must have the skills to learn other computer software programs as necessary for other functions of position such as human resources, materials management and pay management.

Must demonstrate excellent time management and organizational skills in order to prioritize work demands. Must demonstrate strong problem solving skills.

Must demonstrate knowledge of accounting practices in healthcare in order to be able to interpret budget reports.

Must be knowledgeable of reimbursement issues and trends as it relates to rehabilitation services.

Mandatory Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training must be completed annually according to the Exposure Control Plan.

Maintains clinical competency in related field.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.

Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.

Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.

Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).

Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.

Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.

Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.

Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.

Physical Demand Level: Light. Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 11-20 lbs., frequently (34-66% of the workday) 10 lbs. and or Walk/Stand/Push/Pull of Arm/Leg controls.
