Job Description

The Manager, Quality & Accuracy Control oversees all Quality Control and Accuracy Control activities in support of vessel construction at Vancouver Shipyards. The role provides leadership and direction to Quality Control Supervisors, Accuracy Control leadership, Quality Specialists, Coordinators, Technologists, and Technicians responsible for inspection, verification, dimensional control, non-conformance management, and production quality support across multiple trades and construction disciplines.

The Manager, Quality & Accuracy Control works closely with Production, Operations, Engineering, Program Management, and customers to ensure construction activities meet contractual requirements, technical specifications, classification requirements, and customer expectations. The position is responsible for supporting production schedules through effective deployment of quality resources, resolution of quality issues, oversight of non-conformance processes, and continuous improvement initiatives focused on workmanship, product quality, and operational performance.

This role is one of operational leadership, workforce development, and production support. It will lead the Quality & Accuracy Control team in lockstep support of vessel construction activities while fostering a culture of accountability, quality, customer focus, and continuous improvement. The Manager, Quality & Accuracy Control directly reports to the Senior Manager, Quality & Accuracy Control.

Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 50 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver, BC.

• Support the needs of Production and Operations.
• Lead all Quality Control and Accuracy Control activities supporting vessel construction programs.
• Provide leadership and direction to Quality Control Supervisors, Accuracy Control leadership, Quality Specialists, Coordinators, Technologists, and Technicians.
• Ensure inspection, verification, and dimensional control activities are executed in accordance with contractual requirements, technical specifications, regulatory requirements, and company standards.
• Work as the operational quality counterpart to Production, Construction, and Operations leaders.
• Ensure production teams are supported through timely inspection, issue resolution, and quality disposition activities.
• Oversee non-conformance reporting (NCR) activities including issue identification, investigation support, disposition coordination, and corrective action implementation.
• Monitor quality performance metrics and identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
• Support vessel construction milestones by ensuring adequate quality and accuracy control resources are available and effectively deployed.
• Plan, organize, and supervise quality improvement initiatives from start to finish, including resource planning, progress monitoring, and stakeholder engagement.
• Develop resource and capability plans to support current and future business requirements.
• Partner with Engineering, Production, Program Management, and customers to resolve quality-related issues and support project objectives.
• Support customer inspections, regulatory representatives, classification society representatives, and other stakeholders during quality-related activities.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing rework, improving first-time quality, increasing inspection effectiveness, and enhancing customer satisfaction.
• Make informed and timely decisions considering impacts to safety, quality, schedule, and cost.
• Communicate department issues, quality risks, and operational challenges to the Senior Manager.
• Maintain awareness of quality performance issues across vessel programs and communicate concerns as necessary.
• Provide mentoring, coaching, and leadership development support to supervisors and team members.
• Support succession planning and workforce development initiatives within the department.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

What you'll Bring

• Degree, diploma, or equivalent combination of education and experience in Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Construction, Industrial Technology, Shipbuilding, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 7 years of experience supporting production, construction, manufacturing, shipbuilding, or heavy industrial operations.
• Minimum 5 years of leadership experience managing supervisors, technical staff, or operational teams.
• Demonstrated experience leading multi-disciplinary teams in a complex industrial environment.
• Strong understanding of Quality Control principles, inspection methodologies, workmanship standards, and production quality requirements.
• Demonstrated experience supporting production and operational functions in achieving business objectives.
• Experience managing or supporting non-conformance reporting (NCR) processes and complex issue resolution activities.
• Working knowledge of vessel construction, fabrication, manufacturing, construction, or similar industrial production environments.
• Strong understanding of dimensional control, verification processes, and accuracy control principles.
• Demonstrated ability to lead change and influence stakeholders outside of direct reporting relationships.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to capture, analyze, and interpret quality and performance data.
• Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement and operational excellence.
• Excellent leadership, coaching, mentoring, and team development skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills including conflict resolution, collaboration, and problem solving.
• Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to read and interpret technical specifications, drawings, procedures, and construction requirements.
• Demonstrates the ability to work independently and develop solutions to complex operational challenges.
• Computer proficiency required, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint).
• Experience with quality reporting systems, business intelligence tools, and operational metrics is considered an asset.
• Ability to obtain and maintain any required security clearances.
