Full Job Description
This position is responsible for direct supervision of an organization of approximately 15 employees and contingent workers in Indiana. This Manager position is responsible for supporting production electrical engineering, design and drafting for Transmission/Transmission, Transmission/Generation, and Transmission/ Distribution facilities. This position is responsible for developing relaying one-lines, protection zone diagrams, schemes and wiring to support region projects, construction/maintenance support and document control for protection and control systems. This position is responsible for ensuring that systems and designs comply with all applicable regulatory requirements, (ex. NESC, NERC, FRCC, public service commission, environmental). Customers include Distribution, Transmission Relay & Maintenance, Transmission Asset Management, Industrial accounts, Wholesale accounts, Generation, Transmission Planning, and Outside Services. The Manager is responsible for providing oversight and direction related to:
  • Managing and developing a diverse staff of technical professionals.
  • Assuring technical professionals know and comply with appropriate codes and standards.
  • Ensures subject matter expertise in engineering and operations are brought into the decision-making process relative to system protection and control engineering and design.
  • Ensure quality control of planned projects while adhering to project budget and schedule.
  • Provide oversight and assessments to contingent workers and multiple Engineering Consulting firms.
This position is accountable to ensure the work group is accomplished and well positioned with appropriate tools, processes, and resources to effectively manage all aspects of the work. Major Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide the leadership to accomplish departmental objectives by developing, monitoring, and adjusting management operating plans; coaching, developing, counseling, and disciplining employees.
  • Provide resources and expertise to plan, select equipment, design, and support construction for system protection projects. Also provides engineering expertise to support the regional maintenance organizations, distribution, and generation.
  • Support successful project completion in conjunction with the project teams by developing schedules, assigning/monitoring work, gathering resources, and resolving operational problems.
  • Monitor and assess work products to ensure that project activities are performed in a safe and cost-effective manner that contributes to the safety of employees and the public, reliability of service, reasonable protection of the environment, and high levels of employee and customer satisfaction.
  • Control expenses by gathering/submitting budget information, scheduling expenditures, monitoring variances, and implementing corrective action.
  • Implement productivity standards, monitor results. Motivate employees to stimulate maximum productivity and efficiency.
  • Establish employee accountabilities/goals; conduct employee performance appraisals; maintain employee records and files.
  • Recruit, select, orient, and train employees. Develop employees to meet changes in culture and technology.
Basic/Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in engineering and 7 plus years' experience. Current PE license Desired/Preferred Qualifications:
  • Broad knowledge of overall company operations
  • Broad network of contacts throughout Duke and strong industry affiliations
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities including decision making, delivering results, and developing employees
  • Strong negotiation and collaboration skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute both short and long range plans
  • Ability to manage complex transitional issues through innovation and teamwork
  • Prior supervisory experience
