What is the opportunity?

As the Manager Payroll Processing Canada, you build influence and work collaboratively across HR functions and all levels of RBC. You will lead a team of payroll professionals through the timely and accurate delivery, standardization and compliance of payroll services in Canada.

What will you do?
  • You will report to the Senior Manager, Payroll Delivery where you will support and advocate for a seamless and integrated payroll experience through innovative use of technology.
  • Lead a high performing team which executes the highest standards of life cycle and payroll processing in support of managers and employees in Canada and retirees in Canada and internationally.
  • Sets direction and vision of the team by developing the team's capability and leveraging individual capabilities and strengths to achieve business objectives.
  • Accountable for the accurate and timely coordination and preparation of payroll for multiple pay frequencies, for RBC employees in Canada.
  • Oversee management of changes to SAP relating to employee life cycle and payroll by planning, prioritizing and managing system change requests and providing approval to proceed with changes, after successful execution of user acceptance testing.
  • Ensure compliance with RBC internal control requirements, regulatory requirements and RBC HR policies and programs in the delivery of payroll processing.
  • Ensure effective operational controls are in place, properly operated and reported; that defects and failures are highlighted and reported; that remediation plans are developed and actioned.
  • Support optimization initiatives to eliminate manual intervention and streamline processes.
  • Support Project team in identifying processes managed outside SAP to influence adoption of new payroll application.

Must Have:
  • Extensive experience with employee life cycle and payroll management.
  • Experience demonstrating leadership and people management capabilities.
  • Strong team building, mentoring, and performance management capabilities.
  • Experience with HR and payroll software applications.
  • Considerable experience of the principles and operation of payroll tax requirements.
  • Good understanding of internal controls and payroll accounting.
  • Professional payroll designation/qualification.


Nice to Have:
  • Experience in managing relationships with payroll vendors.
  • Professional HR qualification.
  • Project management experience.
