Job Summary and Responsibilities
As our Manager, Patient Access, you will oversee the comprehensive management of scheduling, insurance authorization, and referral services for assigned facilities.Every day you will ensure meticulous collection of patient demographic and financial data, compliance of orders with guidelines, and timely processing of authorizations and referrals across all facilities and Physician Enterprise specialty practices. You will provide first-level application support, manage and assess staffing, and ensure efficient scheduling, pre-registration, and authorization workflows. Your responsibilities include coordinating processes, acting as a liaison for key applications, maintaining deep knowledge of all relevant systems and payer guidelines, and reviewing patient orders for compliance. You will also develop and deliver staff training, provide direct supervision (including hiring, coaching, and mentoring), establish performance objectives, manage staffing schedules, participate in inter-departmental initiatives, and maintain statistical data.To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate exceptional leadership, organizational acumen, and meticulous attention to detail in managing complex patient access operations. Your ability to cultivate strong professional relationships with hospital and medical group leadership, staff, and external partners (HIM, PFS, IT, payers) will be essential. You will ensure data integrity, drive consistent operating practices, and competently manage all department operations, including assuming full responsibility in the Market Manager's absence.
- Analyze and refine patient access workflows to maximize operational efficiency.
- Implement industry-leading best practices to reduce wait times and elevate the overall patient experience.
- Engage with administrative and physician champions, contact centers, and other key stakeholders to educate, foster learning, and expertly address escalated issues.
- Develop comprehensive patient journey maps with a strategic and operational focus, identifying and proactively addressing challenges, operational inefficiencies, needs, gaps, and improvement plans.
- Design and drive alignment to scheduling management best practice, e.g., prospective review of schedules.
- Monitor and optimize practices concerning wait lists, bumped appointment rates, and the management of patient no-shows.
Job Requirements
Required
- Masters Other in healthcare related field,
- Masters Other in Business Administration or with healthcare experience, or a combination of education and experience.
- Project Management experience in a healthcare environment.
- Experience working with budgets, creation of action plans, interpersonal communication and influencing skills,ability to manage multiple projects and time, demonstrated ability to execute.
Preferred
- 7-9 years Minimum of 8 years of experience in healthcare administration, with a proven track record of leadership and process improvement; equivalent experience acceptable.
