Position Overview

The Manager of Safety has overall responsibility for the company's safety program and DOT/Hazmat compliance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Review and document accidents, as well as follow-up on outcomes and corrections
  • Review worker's compensation injuries, investigate, and follow-up on preventative corrective actions
  • Monitor OSHA compliance, to include forklift training and warehouse safety compliance
  • Fuel terminal and customer safety compliance (insurance, drivers, and equipment)
  • Maintain, audit, and update driver qualification files
  • Monitor Compliance, Safety, and Accountability (CSA) and implement preventative measures
  • Monitor Hazmat compliance for fuel and lubricants vehicles and facilities
  • Maintain licensing and permitting for vehicles and other company equipment
  • Tracking and compliance for driver hours of service and miles without hours
  • Maintain operational reports and provide reporting and metrics regarding fuel and fleet safety operations to management as requested
  • Draft and update policies and manuals for vehicle operation and safety
  • Assist with performing site visits to gather information on new customer sites or acquisition facilities
  • Travel required for driver safety meetings and as needed by operations
  • Participate in new driver orientation and on-boarding process
  • Conduct quarterly safety meeting
  • Other duties as assigned


Requirements

Required/Preferred Education & Experience
  • High school degree or equivalent
  • Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent work experience
  • Previous experience as a safety manager preferred.
  • Knowledge of DOT and OSHA compliance regulations
  • Valid Class A commercial driver's license with hazmat and tanker endorsements preferred
  • Knowledge of Long Combination Vehicle (LCV) operations and permitting preferred
  • Computer literate, with experience using MS Office Suite
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills and the ability to collaborate with others
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills

Working Environment and Physical Demands

Work is performed in a standard office environment. Requires the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary. May occasionally require the ability to enter and exit a truck cab or climb on top of and inspect the top of a trailer. Requires the ability to regularly pass a DOT physical and FMCSA drug and alcohol screening protocols.

Salary Description

$130,000 - $150,000/year
