Key Responsibilities:
Process Ownership & Workflow Management:
- Own and manage the Form 990 process across the firm
- Monitor and ensure timely completion and accuracy of:
- Form 990, 990-EZ, 990-T, 990-PF, and 1120-POL filings (and state returns, where applicable)
- Extensions and estimated tax payments
- Coordinate workflow across staff to meet internal and external deadlines
- Identify bottlenecks and implement process improvements
- Maintain visibility over all engagements and proactively escalate issues
Review & Technical Oversight
- Identify and resolve complex technical issues, including:
- Public support tests
- Unrelated business income (UBI) considerations
- Excise taxes
- Private foundation compliance
- State filing requirements
- Serve as the primary reviewer before partner-level review
Client Service & Communication:
- Serve as a key point of contact for 990-related questions
- Communicate filing requirements, deadlines, and issues clearly to clients
- Proactively identify opportunities to improve the client experience
Staff Development & Training:
- Train and coach staff on Form 990 (and related returns) preparation, technical concepts, and review
- Develop training materials, tools, and standardized best practices
- Review staff work and provide actionable feedback to improve quality and efficiency
Process Improvement & Advisory Mindset:
- Standardize 990 processes, templates, and review procedures
- Implement best practices to increase realization and efficiency
- Identify trends across clients and communicate insights to partners
- Support the focus on advisory by helping staff understand the "why" behind the numbers
Practice Growth & Client Development:
- Leverage Form 990 insights to identify advisory opportunities and help clients strengthen governance, transparency, and financial reporting.
- Collaborate with partners and managers across audit, tax, and CAAS departments to support coordinated approach to client service and growth
- Participate in proposals, presentations, and client discussions as a Form 990 subject matter resource
Qualifications:
- Active CPA License
- 7+ years of experience working in tax and/or auditing
- Background in non-profit Form 990 work
Compensation:
This role is salaried, with a range of $140,000 - $160,000, dependent on experience
