Job Summary/Purpose

The Manager of Marketing Operations leads a team of marketing analysts and Salesforce Marketing Cloud engineers responsible for the tactical execution of customer communication strategies developed primarily by the Marketing Strategy group. This role serves as the critical bridge between strategy and execution, ensuring that campaigns, programs, and regulatory communications are delivered accurately, on time, and at scale across utility service territories. The Manager oversees the day-to-day operations of the marketing technology stack, drives continuous process improvement, and fosters a high-performing team culture focused on quality, accountability, and customer impact.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Development
  • Directly manage a team of marketing analysts and Salesforce Marketing Cloud engineers, providing coaching, performance management, and professional development support
  • Set clear team priorities, workload balance, and delivery expectations in alignment with Marketing Strategy group objectives
  • Foster a collaborative, solutions-oriented team culture that values data integrity, technical excellence, and continuous improvement
  • Conduct regular one-on-ones, performance reviews, and career development conversations with direct reports
  • Partner with HR and senior leadership on workforce planning, hiring, and talent development initiatives

Strategy Execution & Campaign Operations
  • Translate marketing strategies and program briefs received primarily from the Marketing Strategy group into actionable execution plans for the operations team
  • Oversee end-to-end campaign and communication delivery across email, SMS, and digital channels
  • Establish and enforce intake, prioritization, and project management processes to ensure the operations team can efficiently absorb and execute on incoming strategy requests
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between Marketing Operations and the Marketing Strategy group, ensuring alignment on timelines, requirements, and deliverables
  • Identify and escalate risks, capacity constraints, or execution gaps that may impact campaign delivery or compliance
  • Co-develop execution approaches and contribute to marketing roadmap planning in partnership with the Marketing Strategy group and Marketing leadership

Platform & Data Oversight
  • Oversee the health, governance, and performance of the Salesforce Marketing Cloud platform across all utility customer segments and operating companies
  • Ensure marketing data integrity, segmentation accuracy, and compliance with CAN-SPAM, TCPA, and state PUC requirements across all outbound communications
  • Partner with IT, CRM, and enterprise data teams to maintain reliable data flows between Marketing Cloud and upstream utility systems including CCS, AMI, OMS, and billing platforms
  • Champion adoption of platform capabilities, automation, and analytics tools that improve team efficiency and campaign effectiveness
  • Own enterprise platform strategy and drive investment decisions in collaboration with senior leadership (Senior Manager)

Reporting & Performance Management
  • Define and track key operational metrics including campaign delivery rates, platform uptime, execution cycle times, and team productivity
  • Partner with the Marketing Strategy group and senior leadership to report on program performance, execution quality, and operational health
  • Drive a culture of measurement and continuous improvement, using data to identify bottlenecks, optimize workflows, and elevate team output
  • Present operational performance and strategic recommendations to VP-level and executive stakeholders (Senior Manager)

Minimum Requirements

Minimum education required of the position

Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or a related field. In lieu of a degree, an equivalent combination of education and relevant job experience will be considered.

Minimum experience required of the position
  • 5+ years of experience in marketing operations, marketing technology, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of people management experience with demonstrated ability to lead both technical and analytical team members

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position

Technical Skills:
  • Solid understanding of marketing automation platforms, with Salesforce Marketing Cloud experience strongly preferred
  • Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with experience working alongside strategy, IT, and compliance stakeholders
  • Familiarity with data governance, privacy compliance, and regulatory communication requirements
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences and business requirements for technical teams.

Functional Knowledge
  • Experience in a regulated utility, energy, or public sector environment
  • Familiarity with utility customer data environments and platforms such as SAP IS-U, Oracle CC&B, or similar CIS/billing systems
  • Exposure to demand-side management, low-income assistance programs, or rate case communications
  • Experience with project management tools such as Jira, Asana, or Smartsheet
  • Salesforce Marketing Cloud certification or demonstrated platform fluency
