Machining and Maintenance Manager in our Shrewsbury, MA office.

The Machining & Maintenance Manager is responsible for leading all machining operations and facility/equipment maintenance activities within the Valmet Shrewsbury facility. This role ensures safe, efficient, and reliable production while maintaining a high level of responsiveness to changing customer demands.

The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise in precision machining, proven leadership of tenured workforces, and a continuous improvement mindset. This leader will balance operational execution with strategic initiatives to improve uptime, quality, and productivity.

Expectations

To excel in the role you should:
  • Lead and oversee daily Machining operations to ensure on-time, high-quality manufacturing that meets customer requirements
  • Work alongside production planning to develop, implement, and manage manufacturing plans and schedules, adjusting resources and workflows as needed to meet demand
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) such as safety, quality, output, efficiency, and rework
  • Work closely with Manufacturing Engineering to develop proper tools, fixtures, and equipment for Machining Operations
  • Partner with the Plant Director to support long-term manufacturing strategy and capacity planning
  • Recruit, train, mentor, and develop a high-performing production team, including performance management, coaching, and succession planning
  • Foster a culture of accountability, respect, and continuous improvement
  • Support workforce development, including cross-training and skills progression
  • Drive Lean Manufacturing initiatives (setup reduction, flow improvements, waste elimination)
  • Identify and implement process improvements to increase throughput and reduce costs
  • Utilize data and root cause analysis to solve recurring issues
  • Champion a strong safety culture and ensure adherence to safety policies and procedures


To succeed in this role you will need:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 7-10 years of experience in Machining or Manufacturing operations, preferably in valve or mechanical component manufacturing.
  • 5+ years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Strong knowledge of machining processes, tools, and safety standards.
