A DAY IN THE LIFE
As a Manager II - Engineering – Major Projects Group, you will be responsible for leading and managing high-voltage project engineering teams through coaching, training, and mentoring junior-level engineering staff to ensure the company’s engineering expectations are met. The Manager II - Engineering - Major Projects Group, will oversee the development, implementation of, and management of safe utility-scale engineering designs, and will develop metrics and set objectives for the company meeting its engineering obligations at project award stage through project completion.
STEP INTO THE ROLE
- Manages and maintains safe utility-scale engineering designs that compliment company, state, and federal safety regulations.
- Serves as a quality champion who perpetuates designs compliant with local, state, and international building codes and company best practices.
- Communicates in a clear and concise manner in leadership, management, and technical spaces.
- Delivers designs that provide the most economical means to satisfy the design life of the power plant. Collaborates across multiple company departments, vendors, and outside firms to explore innovative ideas, methods, materials, equipment, software, and technologies that promote safety, lower cost, increase efficiencies, and provide strategic benefits.
- Adheres to the company’s cultural basics and the National Society of Professional Engineer’s code of conduct. Prioritizes teamwork and collectivism over individualistic thinking.
- Collaborates with team to drive consistency in designs across multiple projects. Partners with team members to determine standard approaches for designs as applicable.
- Develops metrics and identifies initiatives for the teams to incorporate to enhance processes and collaboration, both internally and externally to the department and company. Sets goals and works with team members regarding KRA/KPI/KSAs and training priorities.
- Demonstrates a strong willingness for perpetual learning at multiple levels of technical and leadership fields. Engages in technical fields of electrical interconnections, electrical studies, NEC code, IEEE standards, solar design, substation design, transmission design, and overall power plant design.
- Manages and leads lower-level engineering staff and builds up their skill sets through regular coaching and feedback and offers opportunities as they collectively build their career path.
- Recruits, interviews, and hires Electrical Engineering talent and works with teams to ensure Engineering needs are met.
- Provides guidance to Engineers on large, complex energy park projects.
- Works with estimating on designs and material quantity takeoffs throughout estimating phase.
- Works hand-in-hand with estimating personnel to coordinate and schedule engineering work, procure proposals, and know costs and savings in real time.
- Coordinates with Director – Engineering to determine resource needs to support engineering.
- Captures all Owner provided information and applies technical requirements into conceptual-procurement design.
- Supports technical reviews and vetting of new equipment and products. Coordinates with Supply Chain, Estimating, and Construction to approve.
- Performs commercial/contract reviews.
- Attends job/career fairs on occasion to support the hiring of new employees.
- Identifies opportunities for streamlining work and reducing waste in order to improve efficiency.
- Assists with special projects as needed.
- Performs other duties per supervisor’s discretion
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
- Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from an ABET accredited college.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license is strongly preferred.
- 10 or more years of progressive engineering experience and three or more years of leadership experience, in a related energy or construction industry (i.e., high voltage, utilities, power generation).
- Must have a valid driver’s license and an acceptable motor vehicle driving record (MVR).
- Up to 25% travel required, subject to fluctuations as needs dictate.
- Interpersonal skills – Ability to supervise, influence, and persuade people and groups toward common objectives.
- Working knowledge of equipment and their appropriate applications.
- Effective communication skills (oral, written, listening, presentation) to effectively work with owners, vendors, employees, landowners, etc.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Excellent organizational, scheduling, planning, and prioritization skills.
- Accounting skills (math and record-keeping).
- Ability to work with and handle sensitive and confidential information.
- May be required to become a qualified individual in pursuit of company contract licensing.

$147,232.00 - $213,486.00 Individual Compensation to be determined based on the applicant's applicable experience and qualifications balanced against internal equity.
