Full Job Description
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is looking for a Network Build Manager to manage a team of engineers supporting the Amazon Dedicated Cloud (ADC) regions. As dedicated cloud regions continue to expand and grow, we build and expand data centers to stay ahead of customer demand. We are looking for a proven technology manager with experience in people management, robust technical understanding with drive and vision to take ADC Scaling Operations to the next level. The successful candidate for this role will create sustainable processes and standards; and drive automation opportunities to reduce delivery cycle times and to improve quality without impacting network availability.

The mission of the team is to deliver network capacity on time with zero rework. The Network Build Manager will manage the planning and deployment of new data center spaces as well as the build and expansion of remote management facilities. This manager will be responsible for a growing a team and will oversee their development and growth. The successful candidate will have experience managing and mentoring people, tracking budgets, providing strategic direction and proposing technical solutions. This manager will ultimately be responsible for installing and delivering our network equipment and related infrastructures, as well as responsible for driving low voltage structured cabling across the Amazon data center platform.

This position requires that the candidate selected be a US citizen and obtain and maintain an active TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph.

Key job responsibilities

- Prioritize and assign tasks to design engineers and project managers, coaching and creating documentation. Manage tasks and deliverables across medium to large-size projects.

- Manage projects across multiple AWS regions to ensure just in time delivery of new data center spaces.

- Manage the installation of network and cabling infrastructure in a data center environment

- Guide, train and educate staff on the best practices related to all service owner issues

- Recommend, document, and oversee policies and procedures to meet industry best practices and to meet required SLAs

- Provide weekly report to project stakeholders

- Coordinate team resources to support project and delivery needs, to include emergency projects, change management and maintenance window support, and potential off-hours support. Recruit and train engineers to ensure appropriate staffing levels and host weekly staff meetings and drive compliance to Amazon performance management requirements

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 5+ years of people management and team development experience

- 5+ years of engineering work managing large-scale services experience

- Experience maintaining SLAs through the implementation of proactive issue detection and reporting

- Experience operating a mission-critical team or product

- High school or equivalent

- 3+ years of experience in a data center technology role and experience of TCP/IP networking, network cabling, optic types, and test equipment

- Broad understanding of infrastructure technologies installation and design including network cabling, hardware, and test methodologies.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- 3+ years of work in a management position with 5 or more direct reports experience

- 5+ years of work in data centers with an emphasis on building and equipment operation experience

- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field

- Knowledge of the electrical and mechanical systems involved in critical data center operations including systems such as feeders, transformers, generators, switchgear, UPS systems, ATS units, PDU units, chillers, pumps, air handling units, and CRAC units

- Experience that includes strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities, or experience using strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills

- Experience leading teams and driving results through team members

- Experience analyzing metrics to drive business improvements

- Experience representing your team or technical area to senior management

- Experience with Six Sigma, lean manufacturing, or experience with retrofits, launches, or automation deployments

- Proven ability to partner with a variety of internal and external teams in setting technical direction, mitigating conflicts and ensuring prioritization to deliver results timely for stakeholder teams.
